jaapv Posted May 22, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) These flashes, in general, work quite well, but there is a confusing multitude of types available. All SCA 3000 series flashes will work with an 3502 adapter (M4 or M5). That includes the MZ series ( with motorzoom reflectors) and M series flashes with manual zoom reflectors. However, older SCA 300 flashes tend to pose a problem, because the SCA 351 Leica adapter does not work properly on the M9. In fact it will throw the electronics into confusion. I found out that the Nikon SCA 343 M2 adapter will work correctly with the M9, transferring all available functions. That allows me to use the Metz flash that has the most Leica-M compatible design, the 32 CT 7 on the M9. The only thing is that the flash must be firmly pushed in all the way to get contact Welcome, dear visitor! Washington Posted May 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 23, 2011 I sure like that green covering: sweet. You do it or get it done? I too have been mucking about some old flashes too with quite good results but I have nothing to add to you comments.
erl Posted May 23, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 23, 2011 The Metz 40MZ-3i also works well on the M9 with the SCA 3501 adapter. Only on Auto or Manual of course. TTL reads incorrect values on digital sensor. There are two problems with such a combo. Inclined to be top heavy with flash mounter on M body. The flash unit overlaps the speed dial to make reading difficult. Great for occasional use. Would be a pain to use rugularly. For better ergonomics I use a Metz CT 45 - 4 bracket mounted flash, but all of the above slows the camera useage down.
jaapv Posted May 23, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted May 23, 2011 Yes - the SCA 3000 series has no problems. One thing, though, some shoes may need to be adapted to the shape of the Leica hot shoe, i.e. cut off corner and pin. Washington, that is the original Leica a-la-carte green leather.
