Advertisement Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Hi PBatemanJ, Take a look here M9 without any lenses yet. What to do?!?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
viramati Posted May 21, 2011 Share #22 Posted May 21, 2011 try and find one of these Voigtlander Nokton 50 1.5 Lens Review | STEVE HUFF PHOTOS you may find you will never need the lux 50. I have both and have to say that it is hard to see the difference between the 2 and I have never had a problem with the nokton (the 50 lux has been back to leica 3 times so far) and it will only cost a couple hundred pounds used

MarkP Posted May 22, 2011 Share #24 Posted May 22, 2011 What a pleasant, collegial, and supportive thread!:) Everyone's advice is the same, but to be repetitive and summarise the recommendations: BUY ANY RELATIVELY CHEAP 35mm LENS IMMEDIATELY / NOW / TODAY / DO NOT WAIT / WHY ARE YOU READING THIS AND NOT OUT BUYING YOUR LENS? New or used, either CV (or Zeiss if you want to spend a bit more or get a really good deal). Used lenses with cosmetic wear but clean glass (read used but not abused) are cheaper and good value. Take lots of photos. You will probably still be very impressed with the results. Don't underestimate the non-Leica glass. Goodluck and post your pics ASAP, Mark
hydeca Posted May 22, 2011 Share #25 Posted May 22, 2011 What about a new Summarit 75? Its readily available, affordable, great build quality, great image quality and would complement the 28 and 50 you've already ordered better than a 35.
lars_bergquist Posted May 22, 2011 Share #26 Posted May 22, 2011 I repeat it again: the Summarit lenses are first class optics and you will love using them. I don't know about other places, but in Sweden the market in second-hand M lenses has just self-combusted. Anything a dealer puts on his shelf disappears immediately. The glass cases present a picture of desolation. But Summarit lenses can sometimes be spotted in a corner. Some people do not seem to believe they are real stuff. Thank God for fools, as long as they do not wear suicide vests. As the lady from Boston said when somebody asked her who her milliner was: "We do not get our hats, we have our hats." rea1412 Posted May 27, 2011 Author Share #27 Posted May 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's amazing to find a co-citizen hereby... mine is such a little town... (the local Leica dealer surely does not count on the brand for his shop... but is a longtime passionate...) Just want to thank Luigi Bertolotti, once again, for being so kind and generous in letting me use his 2 lenses.... Summicron 35 & Elmarit 90. Can't wait to start taking photos with these lenses and will try to post them here as well. My brand-new M9 will finally be used as its purpose should be Have a nice weekend everyone! msteber Posted May 28, 2011 Share #28 Posted May 28, 2011 Dude Seriously???? Have you read any of the forum threads??? CV??? Seriously??? Get the Summarit 35. Available, wonderful bokeh, fabulous lens!!! I HAVE THE LUX 50. The Summarit is not embarrassed in any way. Just so ya know Mark
kdriceman Posted May 28, 2011 Share #29 Posted May 28, 2011 I was in the same situation and got a Summarit 50. It is outstanding and what it lacks in speed (I can't believe I'm suggesting that at f/2.5 it isn't fast), it makes up with it's compact size and quality. I'm still waiting for a Lux 50, but I have since obtained a 35 Cron and a Zeiss Sonnar 50 1.5. The 35 Cron is, of course, stunning and the Sonnar is very nice, albeit different. But the little Summarit 50 is probably the best buy unless you just have to have a wide aperture.

I have actually ordered Summilux 50 & Cron 28 (both in chrome) from my dealer.... but I still have around 1 to 1,5 months to wait till those lenses will be available. In the meantime, a member of this forum who happens to live in the same area as I do, was very generous and kind to let me use a couple of his lenses (Cron 35 & Elmarit 90... They are 2 lenses (but will get the newer version) that I might consider buying in the future)... I still can't believe my luck! When I put my original OP, not in million years did I expect anyone here would offer me to lend their lenses. I was just very happy to finally get my steel-grey M9 and only wanted to share that news in this wonderful forum . However, I found out that there are many generous members here and I am really grateful for that .... coz otherwise, I would have had to wait for awhile without being able to use my camera and that would be really a pity. Thanks again everyone for the advices. Have a great weekend!

IkarusJohn Posted May 28, 2011 Share #33 Posted May 28, 2011 I'm interested you've order a chrome Summicron 28. I asked Solms if there were any plans to make a batch of this lens in the future (I'd wait). They said "No". Cheers John

I asked Solms if there were any plans to make a batch of this lens in the future (I'd wait). They said "No". Cheers John Hi John! My dealer told me this 2 weeks ago when I came to collect my steel-grey M9 that (hopefully) in 1,5 months they would be able to get me the Lux 50 & Cron 28 both in chrome. I kinda trust them (they made the calls to several of their sources in front of me).... so I will just wait and see what they would get me in about 1months time. Fingers crossed! Belle123 Posted May 29, 2011 Share #35 Posted May 29, 2011 Good Morning everyone! I finally got my long-awaited steel grey M9 yesterday . What a fantastic piece of equipment. Well... actually I haven't even tried it yet but I could just see that it's absolutely FANTASTIC However, it almost feels like having a beautiful car without the wheels, hence I can't get anywhere with it... because I still have no lens for it. I am still waiting for the Summilux 50 & Summicron 28 (both in chrome) and was told that they should be available in about 1,5 to 2 months. So what should I do now with my M9?.... any good ideas? beside staring at it every now and then...caressing & polishing the screen gently ... plus charging the battery?!? Regards. I, too, just took possession of a new M9. Luckily, I didn't throw the baby out with the bath water when I traded in my M6 and a couple of lenses to afford this! I still kept my 35mm, 50, and 90. My suggestion is to find an older Elmarit or Summicron 35mm or 50mm on Ebay or somewhere and be prepared to have a long wait for your new lenses. It could be a longer wait than you anticipated, but I hope not for your sake. Be prepared to pay a lot even for the old lenses. They are being bought up like hot cakes for top dollar plus from what I have been watching out there. Its crazy. But the good news is you probably can resale it for at least what you paid for it when your new lenses come in. And, personally, I would hang onto it if its non ASPH because you might find you like it better for some things. And, of course as suggested, maybe your local dealer will lend you a lens, perhaps. That certainly isn't an option for me anywhere near where I live. Good luck!!!!!
kanuck Posted May 29, 2011 Share #36 Posted May 29, 2011 Hi, Congrats on the purchase! I'd like to suggest you go out and get a nice Summicron F2 50mm Rigid. More and more as I've gotten used to the M9 its the only lens I use quite often. Happy shooting! Matt
