Help with markings on a 111C

This is a further post regarding markings on my friends 111C circa 1946 - 47.

I now have some images which illustrate these markings - Np 093. I have not had any success so far in identifying what they mean. I guess with the number 093 there must have been others, perhaps Np 01 and Np 100.

If any one has any ideas I would be very grateful...

The marking "Np 093" is done in digits and letters which are quite different from those used by Leitz. Observe the letter N and the digits 0 and 3. Also, the "Np093" has been placed in the middle of the space between "Wetzlar" and the edge of the top plate. Hence, the spacing does not match the spacing between "Ernst Leitz" AND "Wetzlar" where the vertical distance between the letters is half the height of the upper case letters.

I would rather think that the markings are the asset or registry number of one of the previous owners. If that is true, it might be rather hard to find more objects which have been similarly marked unless you happen upon the inventory of the same organisation.

And the "3" and "9" seem to match the OP's example; again, they're not in the same font as the serial number.

I forward them the quizz today, as expressed here it must be a large organization, administration or other business to have at least 93 cameras... if the number engraved on is used for identifying a number of items.

If it is a code, it will has a different meaning.

We have to wait a little to let the experts going deep in their archives and documentations.

I think no german agency would write Nachrichten Presse on their cameras. it does not mean anything in real geman. Thy would use Nachrichtenagentur XXX or Presseagentur XXX or the like.

I agree. That would be like an English or American rag labelling its gear 'An' for "A Newsletter".
