alun Posted May 5, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) As tunes stick in one's mind but defy naming so do photographs.... I am trying to recall the photographer of a BW picture that shows a small crowd of men and a firework rocket being lit -- streaking diagonally across the frame of the picture. I'm pretty sure it's a Magnum photog, it's definitely BWE and it may be taken somewhere in the Med countries. It isn't a contemporary picture but I can't remember how old. Can anyone name the photog and -- ideally! -- offer a link to the picture?

Guest WPalank Posted May 5, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 5, 2011 Erwitt???? Magnumphotos
alun Posted May 6, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted May 6, 2011 No, William, I can be reasonably sure that it's a European photog not Erwitt. BUt I am beginning to wonder whether it may not be a Magnum photog -- none of the numerous search variants I have tried on the Magnum site have uncovered it. When I find it I'll let you know... wattsy Posted May 6, 2011 Share #4 Posted May 6, 2011 Sounds like the basis for a new (and potentially interesting) forum game?
rob139 Posted May 6, 2011 Share #5 Posted May 6, 2011 Sounds like the basis for a new (and potentially interesting) forum game? Indeed, that's what I was thinking also! Rob
dlw Posted May 7, 2011 Share #6 Posted May 7, 2011 This one? By Josef Koudelka. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_UGHAW7h1gU4/TEobvbV7GHI/AAAAAAAAA5M/PplD8mzDjBs/s1600/josef-koudelka.jpg

Guest WPalank Posted May 7, 2011 Share #8 Posted May 7, 2011 I love Koudelka's work!
alun Posted May 7, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted May 7, 2011 dlw -- YOU ARE RIGHT! Thank you and well done. I had a feeling it might be Koudelka, which means I must have it -- somewhere -- but I'm damned if I can find the book it's in.... The strangest thing however is that none of the search permutations I tried on Magnum's site turned it up.... Anyway, to those who replied, thank you -- and to dlw the biggest thank you.... This isn't a forum game: it is a fast route to psychological ill-health... I have been hauling down photo books from the shelves and stacks on and off for two days... I am here in my office now (where I have another "library" -- i.e dump -- of photo books specifically to carry on looking.... I shall now scour my Koudelkas to see where that damn picture is. Thanks again.
dlw Posted May 8, 2011 Share #10 Posted May 8, 2011 I'm glad I got it on the first try. Very lucky. I don't know which of Koudelka's books this might appear in, if any, I believe the title is something like "local residents let off rockets as part of a town festival in Guadix, Andalucía, Spain, in 1971." alun Posted May 9, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted May 9, 2011 dlw, Strangely (and unjustifiably, I think) it isn't included in the most recent JK monograph, published by Thames & Hudson in 2006...
