Olsen Posted May 2, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted May 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Outbound, from our holiday at Tioman Island, we stayed at Marina Bay Sands. You know, this crazy hotel with the pool on top overlooking down-town Singapore. The edge of the pool gives you this impression that you can just jump over the pool's edge. Actually, you can't. Well, not 'just like that', after all. But it looks dangerous for anyone afraid of heights. Like myself. Â Taking a cooling dip in the Sky Park pool at 33 degrees 100% humidity of Singapore, I could not believe my eyes. In the pool I met this guy with a Leica M9! In the pool! Â I said to him that nobody is going to believe me when I get home when I tell them that I met somebody 'in the pool' with his Leica M9 and asked if I could take a picture of him. - With my Canon 1Ds III - I did not bring my M9 for the occasion. Â If he and I had stumbled in the pool we would have destroyed some 20,000 Singapore dollars worth of equipment. So: Don't do this at home! Â PS. The M9 owner was from Hong Kong. On vacation in Singapore. Â Interesting story and nice shots (you need to clean your sensor), but Forum rules specify posting only photos made with Leica cameras, Leica lenses or both. I've removed the images, in this post and in two other of your posts below. Â Stuart Nordheimer

Olsen Posted May 2, 2011 Author Share #6 Â Posted May 2, 2011 My theory is that it is common with some sort of expensive present given to grown up children among the Chinese in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong etc. when they graduate, turns 20 years old, - or what it can be. Singapore, Hong Kong etc. are huge markets for Rolex and other expensive watches also.

NZDavid Posted May 2, 2011 Share #9  Posted May 2, 2011 So it's a pool. We thought it was a boat! The lotus-shaped building to the bottom right of the picture posted above is a science museum which is supposed to be brilliant but we didn't have time for. Here's a view from the top of the Naumi Hotel a charming boutique hotel opposite Raffles. It also has an infinity pool. (Pic D-Lux 5.) Welcome, dear visitor! Guest WPalank Posted May 3, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted May 3, 2011 Que? Â Look at the tight crop of the gentleman (first image). There is something behind him and to the right edge of the frame (blue). It is not there on the uncropped wider version. Que? Â There is a huge blob over the building towards the left. Sensor schmutz, balloon, UFO?
likalar Posted May 3, 2011 Share #11 Â Posted May 3, 2011 Interesting architecture, and a funny encounter. The close-up and the un-cropped are 2 different frames, right? I think the water reflections are a bit different in each. Â Larry

I have done no dust removal. Any spots occurring only on one of the pictures must be UFS's. Let them be. Don't call in the USAF.

Olsen Posted May 3, 2011 Author Share #16 Â Posted May 3, 2011 David, Â Nice photo. Â My wife and I go to Singapore about once a year. Party business and holiday. We usually stay at Hilton on Orchard Road, which has a quiet little rooftop pool too, just for the hotel guests. On the Sands Sky Park the hotel guests by the pool are a part of the tourist attraction, it seems, with a 'train' of on lookers passing by. We have also stayed at Conrad Hotel, close to Suntek City overlooking the Marina Bay area. Also with a spectacular view. Â Here is another photo of the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park pool. That UFO in the thundercloud there followed me all through SEA. Â Removed - Non-Leica photo.

leica dream Posted May 3, 2011 Share #18 Â Posted May 3, 2011 I am attending the World Orchid Congress at the Marina Bay Sands in November. I shall take my humble VLUX-1, but certainly not anywhere near that pool. Richard
Guest WPalank Posted May 4, 2011 Share #19  Posted May 4, 2011 Uhh - William. Two separate shots (not a full-frame and a crop of the same shot). Note space between man's ear and pointy building on right. D'oh!  The girl on the left must be a mannequin. Actually, she's the reason I kept coming back to the shot. Her pose was the exact same in both shots. then I thought Continous mode but that floaty thing couldn't have disappeared unless it was completely covered by the guy. Then I thought of blowing up the time piece, oh well....
