Aperture bargain

I dont know if this has been noted before but Aperture is now available for just £45 from the Apple Apps Store (not the the Apple Store). Seems like a great opportunity for Mac users to buy a top of the range RAW processor/photomanagement/photo-editing programme.

I already have LR, PSCS5, C1, PSE so not sure I need another.

Beware! When the Adobe Store offers an Adobe product at a bargain price then a few weeks later the next version thereof will be released.

Maybe Apple is following the same strategy ...!?

Hi there. Seen this offer before and thought about it. The only caveat is that I think you have to upgrade to the latest operating system which is called Snow Leopard to then buy Aperture from App Store. Have held off as there were some cautions on mac talk rooms about the stability of the latest Snow Leopard but will get round to it at some point. Anyone actually done the upgrade yet with any results? Regards Robin.

Should guess so....:D Snow Leopard is now at its seventh upgrade, i e 10.6.7, so it is quite well established, and has been for at least a year, i should think. No problems at all.

Snow Leopard has been 100% stable for me and is a very cheap upgrade. The DVD contains a full version of the installer and does not require a copy of Leopard installed previously.

It was noted when the Mac App Store premiered in January that the price for Aperture 3 was $79.99 USD, while the "boxed" Aperture 3 was $199 at Apple Stores, or if you added Aperture as a pre-installed option when purchasing a new Mac online from Apple.

AFAIK, no one has offered a satisfactory explanation for the price discrepancy. The Mac App Store version is the full version, identical to the boxed one. The only difference is that the retail package gets you a optical disc to install from, and some printed material with license agreement, quick installation instructions, etc. (but not a printed user manual).

Dont forget that "Lion"is due for release in the next few months.I am using the latest version of Aperture with Snow Leopard and it works perfectly and fast.On a fairly new imac.

Hi there. Well I went to Apple store and bought Snow Leopard and then got Aperture 3 from the App Store. Seems all well so far but I have noticed that the computer is running hot when using new Aperture to process images. The mac talk shops are unclear on the subject, has anyone noticed this. Still to play around with Ap3 and find out if it's been worth the price. Regards to all. Robin.

Hi there, 2 year old with 2Ghz and 2Gb.Nowhere near full hard drive. Do you think I need to upgrade the Macbook? Wonder how much that costs from Apple store. Any ideas? Robin.

2G RAM is probably not enough.
