roylance Posted April 30, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Came home after a shoot, M8 is off, removed the bottom plate, removed the card and the little red light started flashing and beeping. I thought this is odd. Transferred the images, put the card back in and a charged battery, and turned the camera on. I wanted to go into the menus to see how the camera was configured BUT the LCD does not illuminate stays black regardless of what I do and no battery indicator. Here is the odd thing if I remove the bottom plate turn the camera on to S remove the battery and put it back in I get the message ‘Attention Bottom Plate…’ put the bottom plate on, I get the battery indicator and can shoot. But still not LDC menus. When I shoot in S it does not sound as if the shutter returns, but I get an image on the LCD, if I turn the dial to C, I hear the sound of the shutter returning. When I shoot in C the shutter sounds normal, but no image on the LCD. This happens with 3 batteries, 1 is new and just used today. I have cleaned the battery terminals in the camera and still no luck. I did have to press the shutter after turning it on for it to come alive. Thoughts and or solutions appreciated. lct Posted April 30, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 30, 2011 Smells like a camera problem i'm afraid but Discreet (menu "Advance") and Continuous ("C") modes are not compatible. I would stay in Single ("S") mode or disable Discreet and see what happens. Otherwise i would do a full batterry discharge (until the camera stops) then a full recharge and see what happens. Problem is without the LCD I have no access to the menus, so I can not change the auto off after 2 minutes (or what ever I set) or Discreet mode. lct Posted April 30, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 30, 2011 You're good for a full discharge tonight + a full recharge tomorrow then. Another idea could be to remove the battery and let the camera as is for a couple of days. This will drain the internal battery and should cause a full system reset if the M8 works like my other digicams.

Letting the camera switched on during the wait of course.
Bert N Posted April 30, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 30, 2011 According to this thread, the internal battery will last much longer than a couple of days. In any case, the reported problem doesn't sound like it can be addressed by a simple reset. You're good for a full discharge tonight + a full recharge tomorrow then. jberry Posted May 10, 2011 Share #17 Posted May 10, 2011 Thanks for the update. Similar thing happen to me, my M8.2 frooze couple days ago, because I was doing 'Continuous' when 'Discreet' was enabled. Had to take out battery, and let it sit for a couple hours while the battery was charging. Then it worked.
