AZach Posted September 12, 2020 Share #5746 Posted September 12, 2020 Looks very much Japan, ladies in kimonos etc. Lots of nice gardens there. Wild guess: Tokyo Akasaka Imperial Garden.
Dirk Van der Herten Posted September 12, 2020 Share #5747 Posted September 12, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) You have almost arrived. We're in Tokyo, but it's not the garden of the imperial palace. These gardens, a bit more than 7 km north of the imperial palace, are famous. Matcha served in the traditional teahouse near the pond tastes delicious. Welcome, dear visitor! Dirk Van der Herten Posted September 14, 2020 Share #5755 Posted September 14, 2020 1 hour ago, larsv said: Thank you, Dirk. What are the six elements of Waka? I had no idea, but I looked it up for you. As you will have read, the conception of this garden was based on waka poetry, a specific classical Japanese form of poetry. Still written today, for example by the present emperor. The garden has specific spots inspired by waka poetry, each one indicated on a plaque in the garden. As to the name Rikugien: in kanji the name of this garden is 六義園 so in fact we have to call this garden the "Rikugi garden" and not Rikugien garden, the last kanji (園, pronounced "en") already meaning "garden". The kanji 六 means "six", and the kanji 義 has several meanings, but can be translated here as "tenets". So the full name could be translated as the Six Tenets Garden, referring to the six elements to be found in waka poetry. And what are those six elements? (i) Hymns, (ii) odes, (iii) airs, (iv) narrative, (v) explicit comparisons and (vi) implicit comparisons. Now as to your photos, the logo on the planes, the style of the building, the surrounding landscape, and of course good old Mr. Google, lead me to the Convention Center in Vancouver.
