Â The vista is what one sees from "Dead Indian Hill Pass" (no - not exactly PC, is it?) looking to the northwest. Historically, great herds of wild game migrated seasonally through this portal from the mountains beyond to the plains behind my position. Â This high pass also was the gateway for countless Native American hunting and war parties, and in 1877 Chief Joseph led his Nez Perce nation through this portal in a strategic and defensive retreat, pursued by U.S. Army soldiers.
