doubice Posted July 6, 2012 Share #1302 Posted July 6, 2012 Thank you, Stuart. As I unfortunately won the 'Do you know the world' as well, I will need a little longer to dig up some suitable material.... Best, Jan

Michael Geschlecht Posted July 6, 2012 Share #1304 Posted July 6, 2012 Hello Jan, Congratulations for winning both contests @ the same time. This looks like it might be somewhere in Southern Africa. Best Regards, Michael
doubice Posted July 6, 2012 Share #1305 Posted July 6, 2012 Hello Michael, Thanks for the congratulations - just a fluke as I got on the computer at the right time and knew both locations without having to rely on Mr. Google..... As to your guess - sorry, wrong continent as well as hemisphere...... Best, Jan
Michael Geschlecht Posted July 7, 2012 Share #1306 Posted July 7, 2012 Hello Jan, Perhaps Hemispheres South to North as well as East to West. Perhaps not too far from the Mackenzie River? Best Regards, Michael
doubice Posted July 7, 2012 Share #1307 Posted July 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Correct continent but the wrong river.... Cheers, Jan
Michael Geschlecht Posted July 8, 2012 Share #1308 Posted July 8, 2012 Hello Jan, Perhaps a river a little further than the Mackenzie is from your house? Best Regards, Michael
doubice Posted July 8, 2012 Share #1309 Posted July 8, 2012 The river is actually closer to my house than the Mackenzie. Time for hints - the place we are looking at used to be the largest of its kind in North America..... Good luck, Jan
Michael Geschlecht Posted July 9, 2012 Share #1310 Posted July 9, 2012 Hello Jan, Do you mean the largest .... ... ............... mine in North America? Best Regards, Michael
doubice Posted July 9, 2012 Share #1311 Posted July 9, 2012 No.......
doubice Posted July 10, 2012 Share #1312 Posted July 10, 2012 So that I don't hold this up with impossible to answer riddles - hint word is 'ranch'....... Good luck, Jan
Olsen Posted July 10, 2012 Share #1313 Posted July 10, 2012 Is it Badlands, South Dakota? Somewhere near the Pine Ridge Reservation?
stuny Posted July 10, 2012 Share #1314 Posted July 10, 2012 I don't recall anywhere this much green in the Badlands.
Olsen Posted July 10, 2012 Share #1315 Posted July 10, 2012 I don't recall anywhere this much green in the Badlands. ....but I do....
doubice Posted July 10, 2012 Share #1316 Posted July 10, 2012 This place is closer to my home than the Mackenzie River - as per my response to Michael. So - it will not be in South Dakota. I admit that not too many have probably been here, it is in the middle of nowhere but, there is a lot of history there (at least by North American standards... ) You can see an airstrip in the corner of the photo which even has a four-letter identifier, just like any other airport. Good luck, Jan
doubice Posted July 12, 2012 Share #1317 Posted July 12, 2012 To help along again, another hint - the river below me is the Fraser. As I hinted earlier, we are looking at a ranch that used to be the largest in North America...... It has its own airport and even built its own bridge across the mighty Fraser river. I hope that Google's search engines will start cooking now..... Good luck, Jan
stuny Posted July 12, 2012 Share #1318 Posted July 12, 2012 Could it be the Gang Ranch? I always thought the King Ranch was the biggest.
doubice Posted July 12, 2012 Share #1319 Posted July 12, 2012 THANK YOU, Stuart! Yes, it is the Gang Ranch - as I said, it used to be the biggest ranch in North America; now it is the second largest in Canada. Lots of local history there: Gang Ranch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia It is really in the middle of nowhere, the closest settlement is a small native village by the name of Dog Creek..... However - a beautiful drive to get there, in the middle of true Canadian wilderness. For our German members - an area which would be perfectly suited for Karl May and his Winetou and Old Shatterhand.... Over to you, Stuart. Best, Jan
stuny Posted July 13, 2012 Share #1320 Posted July 13, 2012 Jan - Thank you. The name of this one is easy, but the location is a bit harder. Welcome, dear visitor!
