Clive Murray-White Posted April 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm looking for a pretty basic sort of soft comfortable jacket with big enough pockets to M8, Summicro 50, Elmarit 90, and Nokton 35/1.2. Weather wise, most of you are in Spring whilst here in Oz its autumn so weather wise we're all at roughly the temp. All I want this for is everyday walking about nothing too extreme. Like a Gitso photographer's fleece jacket!
Advertisement Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi Clive Murray-White, Take a look here jacket with big enough pockets for M8 +. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dpitt Posted April 24, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2011 Your jacket will be loaded! Why not mount a collapsible 35 or 50 on your M8. You can put that in one side pocket and take a compact 90 Elmar or Elmarit in an other pocket? This works in almost any winter jacket. In my case I often take a 40cron-C and 90 Elmarit. 50cron coll works just as fine. And when I want to travel light, the 50 Elmar LTM is unbeatable
cidereye Posted April 24, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 24, 2011 I can get all that in a Tamrac 153 photo vest but it kills on the shoulders and neck.
menos I M6 Posted April 24, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 24, 2011 I'm looking for a pretty basic sort of soft comfortable jacket with big enough pockets to M8, Summicro 50, Elmarit 90, and Nokton 35/1.2. Weather wise, most of you are in Spring whilst here in Oz its autumn so weather wise we're all at roughly the temp. All I want this for is everyday walking about nothing too extreme. Like a Gitso photographer's fleece jacket! If you carry the camera always in hand or over a shoulder with one lens on it at all times, a standard M40 military field jacket is all you need, to store the remaining two lenses. I double check the bags on my jackets and if needed reinforce the stitches, to prevent loosing lenses and stitch a soft patch over the inside metal button to prevent scratches. Loading your M8 + 3rd lens also into the jacket calls for a better option actually: camera bag.

mathiasprinz Posted April 24, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 24, 2011 You should consider a Barbour – those are originally designed for Hunters, so they´ve got big enough pockets to fit a duck in. Also they are very tough, perfect for rough autumn weather. They are very expensive when bought new, but one can find them used for cheap. Bought mine for 20 $! Clive Murray-White Posted April 24, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted April 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think we're on the right track though I'm not going to get the Manfrotto! nice but I've got other things I can spend my money on! The camera round the neck is the way to go + pockets for extra lenses etc. shooting jackets are a good idea, trap shooting has huge pockets, which Barbour? Some of the US workware barn or chore coats look quite promising too but from web pics you can never really tell pocket sizes or usefulness. I've found the same pain problem with fishing vests when they are loaded up. I've also become very aware of how hand warmer pockets become very uncomfortable when there a main pocket in front of them, your knuckles seems to get ground down by something like a lens. I think we're getting somewhere, thanks - Clive
Clive Murray-White Posted April 24, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted April 24, 2011 Sorry Dirk - I didn't mention the collapsable lens option, it would be OK if I had them already but I don't and I think I could probably get a seriously good tailor to create the "perfect" jacket for me at the price of replacing lenses. Nice thought though.
Rick Posted April 25, 2011 Share #9 Posted April 25, 2011 Thought I'd ask here while we are talking about men's clothes... What shoes do you guys suggest when I'm out shooting with the M in a Luigi half case (Rally color). Comfort is important, but I would sacrifice some comfort for fashion, of course. :D:D

Clive Murray-White Posted April 25, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted April 25, 2011 Now that's very difficult Rick, clearly the whole ensemble is important to you, I'm guessing gruff casual would be your style, probably can't go far wrong with a solidly built pair of German shoes. Maybe Birkenstock will go reasonably with an M etc

EJohnE Posted April 25, 2011 Share #13 Posted April 25, 2011 I'm looking for a pretty basic sort of soft comfortable jacket with big enough pockets to M8, Summicro 50, Elmarit 90, and Nokton 35/1.2 Wear the camera in full view. Stuff a couple of capped lenses down the front of your shirt. Of course, if you wear braces, you had better also put on bicycle clips! Trouble is, that Leica people in the main seem to be snobs who must look professional with those high quality cameras which few people now recognise anyway. It is often an advantage to look like the village idiot, so that one is disregarded, and can shoot who- or what- ever one likes with relative impunity. Scruffy-by-design John. Morry Katz Posted April 25, 2011 Share #14 Posted April 25, 2011 Take a look at the L.L.Bean on line catalogue. Look for the 'Explorer" jacket. Also check out Eddie Bauer.com. Both are very reputable and very efficient. Cheers Morry Katz Lethbridge, Canada

Clive Congratulations! for others, Gitzo makes an all weather coat. Domke has a Photog coat, like their vest but with sleeves. Billingham has a good vest. So does Vested Interest. I used a Barbour motorcycle suit in the '60's. Can't stand their price now. Belstaff was an alternative then. Did 600 miles in pouring rain in my Brbr Suit on my bike one day. Suit kept me dry. Boots didn't. Sometimes Brbr bargains on eBay, if you have the time. Dave Lynch
