sblitz Posted May 3, 2011 Share #41 Â Posted May 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) to me this question about x1 vs m8 is fairly simple to resolve -- one allows you over time to choose different lenses, the other doesn't. from there it depends on your bank account and how much that lens option means to you. doesn't mean this has to be a mutually exclusive camera choice -- x1 is in the pocket while the m8 isn't and for those with the financial wherewithal there can be a rationale for both. i have an m9 and still very much use my d-lux4 when the occasion makes sense to carry something small and pocketable. in sum, this m8 x1 discussion isn't about quality, not really, it is about money and how much of it one wants to or can spend on a camera. jsrockit Posted May 9, 2011 Share #44 Â Posted May 9, 2011 I gave up on the X1 and the M8.2. I upgraded both... X1 to Fuji X100 (yes, upgraded) and M8.2 to M9 (soon).
sblitz Posted May 9, 2011 Share #45 Â Posted May 9, 2011 sorry to hear you gave up on the x1, as you have been one of its biggest proponents on the forum. i don't own the camera, went to the m9 while holding onto the dlux4 as the pocket digicam with a flash. you will love the m9, not sure how you will balance the x100 vs the m9 given the relative size of each. there is something fun about setting the shot through the lcd, easy to get lots of different angles without being a contortionist. i don't bend that way anymore but arms still go up and down and my hands can tilt. anyway, good luck with it all. at least you won't need to buy lenses to go with the m9. jsrockit Posted May 9, 2011 Share #46 Â Posted May 9, 2011 No need to be sorry... it's still a good camera, but the X100 is just better for me. I don't feel like I gave up on it really (just went with the thread theme)... I used it extensively for 1 year 3 months. I made many fine images and still got 80% of my cash back (i.e more than enough to pay for the Fuji). Â Balance the X100 and M9? Easy... bring the X100 when drinking and hanging with friends, when going into sketchy neighborhoods, when I want autofocus, when I need something incredibly quiet, when I need macro, when I need extremely high ISO, etc. Use the M9 when I'm serious, when I want to focus manually, or want to use something other than a 35mm lens. I love the 50mm focal length.

sblitz Posted May 9, 2011 Share #48 Â Posted May 9, 2011 i'm not really sorry, just an expression. same reason you give for the x100 is reason why i kept the dlux 4. mine can go in the pocket, yours wont, but you will get a heck of a lot better pictures of your pals at the bar. of course, they may not thank you for that in the morning. Guest stnami Posted May 9, 2011 Share #49 Â Posted May 9, 2011 Some people go out with friends and talk on mobiles instead of who is there in person, a bit like a guy that goes to a bar to photograph his mates ......all a bit sad.
