I Love My Camera Strap

Went through some of my very old leather work and found my favorite work when I was in Arkansas, my very own hand-made camera strap! Question: What kind of camera should I get for it?

...oh, and what kind of box should I design for the strap?

Pico - still kinda goofy after accident.

My original post inspires me to flame myself. What a goof I was. I should be in my own ignore list.

Paid annual federal taxes yesterday. Ever heard the the word Intaxication? It is the small thrill you feel when you receive your federal tax refund, followed by the depressing realization that it was your money all the time.

Thank gosh we don't get all the government we pay for.

Four wars and countless 'interventions' in my lifetime so far, and I voted for none of them, however I did serve in one. Medic. 1964-70. I'm still rationalizing it.

Hi Pico

Sorry omitted the 'current' from 'three current wars'...

I only worry about the cost - bean counters are us.

We have always written poems about our military e.g.

Poems - Ford o' Kabul River

A medic is just impressive sorry, must be hard still.

Have you considered which countries - if any - are best suited for traveling to, given your Camera Strap? Also: does it have your initials or any kind of branding, and what measures have you taken to prevent theft or other untimely loss of the strap?

My current favorite camera strap is 5GBP (in leica dealers shop), so If I spill food on it - discard is an option.

Japan, for certain. The young Japanese are quite style conscious. NY/NY, and Paris and possibly London might work, but not Italy because there is a certain leather artist there who's work is too excellent. For NY,NY I would consider a Wall Street Special - a strap that doubles as a noose with a robust clip for spontaneous application.

To be pure, I've decided the strap should be carried without a camera - just clipped end-to-end, slung over the shoulder. Regarding a brand, I was considering a whole line named L-Poseur, meaning Leica then I realized that it might be interpreted as Luigi, and I've far too much respect for his work to permit that. P-Poseur might work.

Once branded I might consider embedding an RFD chip, and/or a visual Q-Code pointing to a site something like "Where's George". Regarding theft, I obviously encourage it for the sake of art and profits. (Profit the Wall Street way).

Seriously, let's see photos of your creation. You may have had a new idea or two.

Seriously, I've never had a new idea in my life. At least none that mattered, as evinced by my own posts.

Picco, you are not correct. It is not your money. You work for the state and they allow you to keep a portion for use on incidentals like food, clothing, shelter, transportation, medical care, etc.

Soon you will turn over all the money, and all the incidentals will be provided. See how well it will work in the end. Karl Marx was simply ahead of his time.

Cameras will not be on the necessity list and you will not have cash to purchase them. In fact they will not be in stores except for stores only selected government people are allowed to enter. That is how it worked in communist Russia, everyone equal, just some more equal than others. They had a saying in the workers paradise, they pretend to pay us, we pretend to work. So never fear.

Hi Toby

It is real reassuring to see that you can sometimes look on the bright side of the rain cloud.

True. I do work for the State of Minnesota. They give me all kinds of toys because I work in R&D. You want to talk about freedom? What do I do? App evals. Blue Sky. Think Tank. And a pint of Guinness every day. All equally enjoyable.

But it all ends June 28th when I retire. I want to be a photographer when I grow up.

Thanks for the posts here.

I find I'm quite irrational about cameras, straps and bags.

I hate straps that slip off my shoulder, so they require a hand to keep them there.

I'm recovering from using a black rapid strap. So convenient, until the camera needs to go in the bag.

So I'm looking again.

And that's how I found your post!

I'm an x-M3 owner (favourite camera of all time; it was stolen after a car crash.) Also an M4P x-owner.

Lusting over the thought of getting an M3! :)

Best

Hi Pico

Will the M be repaired in time?

Will you be able to laugh at my 'humour' without it hurting?

Noel

:)

Leica USA rebuilt the destroyed M9 in ten days. It is better than new, IMHO. It was done in time to bring it to my Mother's funeral ceremony.

And the ribs have healed so now I can take Toby off my ignore list and laugh without pain.

And regarding straps - funny, but the stock Leica strap is my favorite. It is light, and especially secure on the shoulder. Although my M7's have those heavy, wire-embedded safety things.

And putting the camera with rapid strap attached down on the table when you stop for a drink can be downright awkward, too. Other than that, I think it's a fetish item for me, too.

Hi Pico

What we now need is the pano photo of the M and the strap.

And re the Soviets, they made lots of Kievs, Fed, Zorki, for internal use, the early ones were/are pretty nice.
