Actress Jessica Lange (Blue Sky, King Kong), Angela Fisher, Carol Beckwith, Catherine LeRoy (war photographer), and Deborah Kellor are/were Leica users as well.

Apologies if I misspelled a name.

Yes I understand that there are some famous people out there with Leicas......but how many in your own neighbourhood, or tourists that wander past that you could talk to.....I still have not seen any, even when I went to buy another V Lux 20 (my wife took the first one for herself) from our most Leica friendly retail store, (usually full of people)......even all the customers inside as well as outside looking in......no Leicas at all, male or female.

btw, is that a roll of Pacific 35mm film in your avatar?.....my eyes are not that good.

That's because if a Leica photographer knows what's she's doing, you won't see her. ;)

Hi guys

This thread seems sexist.

But I've seen two ladies in Red Dots shop, one a dcamera person the other a little oldie with a monster Billingham, dont know how she picked it up... and I dont spend that much time in there...

On a day outing in London, Brum or Manchester it is not unusual to see one lady M user, never seen two the same day.

Ive only ever seen one Barnack user, in streets male & Ja.

Some girls with film cameras have normal large shoulder bags, and are fast on the draw, so you wont detect they are photogs, unless you are looking at the correct 1/125. They may not want to demonstrate a target for snatch person. (I use cheaper LTM >50% of time, for similar reasons.)

This posting has caused me to wonder if Lee Miller ever used a Leica…. and, come

to think of it, I am not sure what she used….. she traveled extensively through Germany

with the American troops during WW II…. I’ll have to check into this. Good posting and an interesting subject! Thanks.

Leica and female photographers....yes! Not too many of us on this forum but I am one and enjoy using my favorite camera, the M7. There are several other female photographers using Leicas in our photo group here in AR. We have a group of about 20 film photographers who still have access to a darkroom that we can use on a weekly basis, kind of an independent study setup. Most of the group are women, a few guys but need more!

I love my M9 :) Take it with me everywhere with a few of the seven lenses I use from 15mm-90mm. Whatever it seems like the day will call for. I adore this camera because theres an excellent prime for everything I do and the IQ is superb for a camera smaller than a baby.

AF standin: NEX3 with 16mm pancake, too loud and inconsistent though. Perhaps when the prices fall an Fujifilm X100 as with its aps-c crop sensor its lens hits my favorite 35mm aspect.

Still I'm a rangefinder adherant, which is a bit puzzling because I'm also a pro hip shot from having to be very quick around here. People are very short in the bay area and I'm very tall at 5'10, so I have to be extra unassuming even though I just go for scenes and not individuals.

Barbara Klemm. She was the house photographer of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung since 1970. In an interview, she said, when buying a new handbag, she always checks, whether her M6 with a wide angle fits in. Her main camera is an EOS3, the M6 is to have always a camera ready.

A Tri-X image always feels a bit like a newspaper reportage to me. This might have been influenced by her Tri-X pictures.

Sorry, this link is German, but shows some of her photos:

Yes, Leni Riefenstahl did terrific (quality speaking) p.r. films and stills for Mr. Hitler.

But, taken without the very nasty politics of that bunch, her work was world recognized

as creative genius. I saw an interview with her in her later years and naturally she was a bit

bitter about the treatment and attitude toward her post-war. She claimed she was never

a party member or had any interest in being political…. she got a chance to strut her stuff

and her work is considered classic to this day. In the climate of the times I don’t think

one could live in Germany and say no to Mr. Hitler.

Some did and they were more numerous than you think (German resistance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

I use R6.2, R8, R8+DMR, R9, R9+DMR, M6TTL, M7, MP, M9, X1 and GH2, and I am female. :)

Me too but I only have a V-Lux 2.

Oh, indeed there was resistance. Hugo Eckener for one who was a vocal anti-Nazi

and resented the hell out of the huge swastikas the Zeppelin Company HAD to paint

on the fins of the LZ127 and 129. He would surely been done away with had it not

been for his massive popularity.
