Can anyone tell from the two attached images which is the correct Lens Cap for my 1952 Leica Elmarit 5cm 1:3.5 lens fitted to my IIIF Red Dial.

I suspect the first image is the right one but I would then like to know what the second one would have been fitted to ??:)

Best wishes

The first image is the correct cap for 1952 vintage lenses. I would assume that both caps are chrome; there is some reflection that may indicate that the second cap is black.

And - so it should be..... That is an early pre-WWII type of cap, which as far as I know only came in black enamel.

Best,

Jan

Thanks for that, what I did find is that whilst the flat version did fit my lens it was not a snug fit and it easily came off. The velvet strip inside was quite worn.

I think you made a typo writing an Elmarit, it is an Elmar.

The first cap can be a right one but usualy it is the one with bumped center the a36 same as the e42 cap the second one (alloy) is for prewar Elmar lenses

I believe the "bumped" versions quoted by Jean-Claude Braconi are the ones I illustrate here.
