No. The lugs on the M8/9 are fixated differently as you can see here and on the last picture here Mike
ChiILX1 Posted April 2, 2011 Share #23 Posted April 2, 2011 This camera is in bad shape. Lots of impact marks. The flash is only partially raised too- is it stuck like that? I don't think Leica would cover anything with this camera.
barjohn Posted April 2, 2011 Share #24 Posted April 2, 2011 The threads seem shallow or missing from the lug which points to a manufacturing defect in that the lug holes were not properly tapped and threaded. The screw threads show no sign of abuse so they were not stripped when screwed into the lug. However, the lug having such shallow and poorly defined threads had very little for the screw threads to bind to and hold the lug once any real force was applied as would be when carrying the camera on a hand strap. I would certainly argue that Leica should cover that under warranty.

I don't think Leica would cover anything with this camera. What is so hard to understand about this? The reason for the crappy condition is BECAUSE the camera was dropped onto rocks (?) BECAUSE the lug fell off. There's another example now so the possibility is a manufacturing/design defect, which the OP needs to make Leica aware of by sending his camera back to them under warranty! jaapv Posted April 4, 2011 Share #29 Posted April 4, 2011 What is the sense of complaining here as long as there is no verdict by Leica? The threads on the inside of the lug are completely stripped. How did that happen? Is that a manufacturing defect in that the drill holes in the lug were too wide to take a thread? Or is the material of the lug at fault? Or were forces beyond the breaking strain applied, stripping the thread out completely? Everything we say now is speculation. James is spot-on: first send it back to Leica. James is spot-on: first send it back to Leica. First of all, I am not complaining. My simple question was; is loose strap lug a common problem on X1? My X1 was replaced by Leica with a new X1. BUT, the same thing happened again! The same problem has been raised in the Russian x1- forum, and in at least two more cases. I am not complaining at all here I sit waiting for my third X1 from Leica. Maybe Leica pay me this time to stress test X1’s….. My thread was just to warn other with loose strap eyelet. And no the threads on the inside of the lug was not stripped. Can someone tell Leica about another German company; Locktite, They are experts on this. jaapv Posted April 4, 2011 Share #35 Posted April 4, 2011 No personal reflection on you - rest assured. Just interested in what Leica has to say or does. And where the threads went.
Danielsan Posted April 4, 2011 Share #36 Posted April 4, 2011 its the first time ive heard about such problems, mine is still perfect. The Leica forum has many x1 owners and they dont have the problem, just send it back and get a new one. If the next x1 has the same then i could think that maybe you are a bit rough or expect too much from a compact camera? Another thing, the camera has 2 lugs on the right side and left for the strap, use them both, so the weight of the camera lasts on both lugs.
trylab Posted April 4, 2011 Author Share #37 Posted April 4, 2011 You say I should not use Leica's own Leica X-1 Wrist Carrying Strap? (Mfr. Part: 18713) or should I have them on both sides?
Danielsan Posted April 4, 2011 Share #38 Posted April 4, 2011 yes, why not use both sides?
dkCambridgeshire Posted April 4, 2011 Share #39 Posted April 4, 2011 Given that Leica offer a wrist strap for the X1, then one lug should be capable of taking the X1's weight and any reasonable force exerted whilst using the strap. dunk
