jippiejee Posted March 29, 2011 Share #662 Â Posted March 29, 2011 The MF options are brilliant! Might use it plus ZF a lot more now. Very happy with the new firmware...
Koizumi13 Posted March 29, 2011 Share #663  Posted March 29, 2011 Just tested with 2.8 and auto on shutter and the flash fired. Have you reformatted the card and restarted the camera yet?  Indeed I have. But there is good news to report now. I redid the entire reformat + download + installation for a third time and now all functions work (including the flash). Perhaps my X1 was a little cranky this morning  I must say that the improvements are most welcome in my book. I need to take the X1 out for a serious test drive to truly ascertain the 2.0 update under adverse spontaneous circumstances--but thus far, the improvements appear to be dramatic.  Cheers
wda Posted March 29, 2011 Share #664 Â Posted March 29, 2011 Is there no manual with the new options available? Â Download the pdf. All info therein.

Ecaton Posted March 29, 2011 Share #666 Â Posted March 29, 2011 Was wondering whether anybody noticed in what way the jpegs improved. Although being a DNG & JPEG shooter I always felt the jpeg output of the X1 to be one of its strengths. So are there any observations what changed/improved? Broke Posted March 29, 2011 Share #667  Posted March 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Was wondering whether anybody noticed in what way the jpegs improved. Although being a DNG & JPEG shooter I always felt the jpeg output of the X1 to be one of its strengths. So are there any observations what changed/improved?  I was hoping the sharpening artifacts of the old jpegs would be gone -- unfortunately they're still there in high contrast places, even with sharpening on low... pity. There's a couple pixel widths of artifact. I imagine these are only visible in really big prints, but will likely cause me to use DNG's exclusively. I'll have to make some big prints and see  I agree with those above. The manual focus improvements are well worth the upgrade. The autofocus is really quick when in the same ballpark as the last focus distance. I'm really enjoying working with this camera overall.  Cheers, Jim

Guest badbob Posted March 29, 2011 Share #669 Â Posted March 29, 2011 So far I haven't seen improvements in the JPEG's. It would be nice to know what the test conditions were.

h00ligan Posted March 29, 2011 Share #671 Â Posted March 29, 2011 It's unfortunate that nobody so far did a before and after. Simply stating it 'feels' faster could very well be a placebo effect. Â Sunds like mf is great though!

Sunds like mf is great though!  I don't think AF in good light is any different. But start up seems to be quite snappy, quicker then before, but maybe that is a placebo effect on my side as well:D.
soleforeal Posted March 29, 2011 Share #673 Â Posted March 29, 2011 My manual focus dial didn't work until pressing delete for a second. Thanks for the tip. Â I have renewed my love for the X1.
paulpp Posted March 29, 2011 Share #674 Â Posted March 29, 2011 All installed ok and very happy except that with auto-rotate on the images are rotated wrongly and with auto-rotate off they are the right way around! Very strange.
spylaw4 Posted March 29, 2011 Share #675 Â Posted March 29, 2011 Haven't had a chance to do a real test yet, but one disappointment is that there is no DNG only option.

andybarton Posted March 29, 2011 Share #677 Â Posted March 29, 2011 DNGs have small rear screen preview jpgs embedded in them. Â One can shoot DNG only on an M9 and still see the image on the rear screen.
fimkap Posted March 29, 2011 Share #678 Â Posted March 29, 2011 Very nice update. Played with manual focus a bit. Green line for DOF is a great addition but I would put a mark for exact focus distance. It should be in the center of this green line, but when it goes beyond the infinity it will not be in the center any more. Switching to F2.8 should give a good indication since DOF is the least. The way this line implemented invites using hyperfocal distance for focusing, so if you move a green line toward infinity when it touches it with its right end, you're at hyperfocal distance for this given aperture. Quite nice! The manual focus lock is amazing. Someone was asking here about auto ISO and why Leica didn't allow shortest shutter speeds than 1/30 for this. I agree that this should be fixed. But you may try the following to compensate for this. Auto ISO still works if one of Aperture or Shutter speeds in Auto mode. So set shutter speed to 1/60 and Aperture for Auto. Then AutoISO will adjust ISO for correct exposure, however, the widest aperture of 2.8 will be selected if ISO is higher than 100.
h00ligan Posted March 29, 2011 Share #679 Â Posted March 29, 2011 Exact focal point doesn't fall dead in the middle of dof afaik. Thirds. Â You can use ev compensation to work around the min shutter speed issue. Fwiw.
jcrutcher Posted March 29, 2011 Share #680 Â Posted March 29, 2011 I did the update today and I'm very happy, they improved an already great camera. If I want it to do more than I'll shoot my M9 on those occasions.
