Just tested with 2.8 and auto on shutter and the flash fired. Have you reformatted the card and restarted the camera yet?

Indeed I have. But there is good news to report now. I redid the entire reformat + download + installation for a third time and now all functions work (including the flash). Perhaps my X1 was a little cranky this morning :D

I must say that the improvements are most welcome in my book. I need to take the X1 out for a serious test drive to truly ascertain the 2.0 update under adverse spontaneous circumstances--but thus far, the improvements appear to be dramatic.

Cheers

Was wondering whether anybody noticed in what way the jpegs improved. Although being a DNG & JPEG shooter I always felt the jpeg output of the X1 to be one of its strengths. So are there any observations what changed/improved?

I was hoping the sharpening artifacts of the old jpegs would be gone -- unfortunately they're still there in high contrast places, even with sharpening on low... pity. There's a couple pixel widths of artifact. I imagine these are only visible in really big prints, but will likely cause me to use DNG's exclusively. I'll have to make some big prints and see :)

I agree with those above. The manual focus improvements are well worth the upgrade. The autofocus is really quick when in the same ballpark as the last focus distance. I'm really enjoying working with this camera overall.

Cheers,

Jim

It's unfortunate that nobody so far did a before and after. Simply stating it 'feels' faster could very well be a placebo effect.

Sunds like mf is great though!

I don't think AF in good light is any different. But start up seems to be quite snappy, quicker then before, but maybe that is a placebo effect on my side as well:D.

Very nice update. Played with manual focus a bit. Green line for DOF is a great addition but I would put a mark for exact focus distance. It should be in the center of this green line, but when it goes beyond the infinity it will not be in the center any more. Switching to F2.8 should give a good indication since DOF is the least.

The way this line implemented invites using hyperfocal distance for focusing, so if you move a green line toward infinity when it touches it with its right end, you're at hyperfocal distance for this given aperture. Quite nice!

The manual focus lock is amazing.

Someone was asking here about auto ISO and why Leica didn't allow shortest shutter speeds than 1/30 for this. I agree that this should be fixed. But you may try the following to compensate for this. Auto ISO still works if one of Aperture or Shutter speeds in Auto mode. So set shutter speed to 1/60 and Aperture for Auto. Then AutoISO will adjust ISO for correct exposure, however, the widest aperture of 2.8 will be selected if ISO is higher than 100.
