i guess this update is gonna be "big"...why do i guess this...they have delayed and delayed and delayed (i was told by dale camera in December to expect it before the end of the year)

a) delaying something raises expectations

b)uncertainty increases hype (look at how many page views all the firmware threads have generated on this forum alone)

c) because if it isn't big then the heat that leica will have generated by this pr nightmare will be enough to melt a glacier....

I had heard rumours even back in summer 2010. Thats why I would expect that when testing it they found problems they couldnt manage for long time. Thats why my expectations are not too big.

everyone i think is assuming that this is just a patch upgrade- i assume that it is a total rewrite of the code...which is why i think it's gonna be big and why it has taken so long.

well i'm going to assume they have project teams and that key software personnel were either pulled off to do something else or are not available for some other reason. or maybe they're going to intro the new firmware with a titanium and zebra stripe body x1?

I assume they are incorporating some additional menu languages and their Potawatomi translator got seriously ill. My sources say the poor lad is getting better, so we can expect the firmware-update soon!

:o

But massively improved manual focus. It has been said here for months that great improvements in auto-focus were not possible for hardware reasons.

And, Leica tweeted that it would be here in March.

Good news.

Not only here but also in LFI. Reasonably speaking, its AF speed under good light and in high contrast is OK. If it's really improved under low light and in low contrast, it would be really good. I especially look forward to the MF improvements. Sounds promising.
