There aren't that many places taking pre-orders in the US and I'm sure it is the same in other countries because Fuji wasn't allowing it until a day or two ago. I think they are going to ship before being at full capacity is more like it. That's not unusual... Apple, for one, does it all the time with every product... hot or not.

I think it's more devious than that. I think they are going to do a staged release to drive further demand. They know they have a pre release hit on their hands.. and if they have faith in the product.. staged release will aid the popularity.

What do you mean by staged?

If that's the response you really got.. and we are expecting a q2 release.. mine's going up for sale.. just too much of an indication of Leica's post purchase support.

I know some people here won't get my thought process.. but they should be offering partial updates as fixes or enhancements are realized.

JS - I simply mean they will stage them to keep supply just below demand.. for a while.

I have purchased a few LV purses for my wife and yes, they are expensive but they are understated and the quality is nothing short of outstanding. In fact, if anything that might be more of a problem because they don't wear out as fast as fashion changes.

This is my first coment since i think half a year and the first thing i see is barjohn still bashing Leica :) By the way Louis Vuitton is the biggest crap you can buy, it stands absolutely not for quality at all, this is a fashion brand like D&G and they have usually medicore quality, i made the mistake buying those brands, its just for the looks and name, you cant compare those with leica at all! If you want to buy quality shirts then Barba Napoli or Borrelli, Kiton etc... those are hand tailored, best materials and dont sell cause its LV :)

Not to be hi-jacking this thread, but Daniel - your first comment in half a year is definitely lacking in evidence and argument. In the post you quoted, he said he bought LV purses for his wife. Louis Vuitton has a long tradition of making purses, bags, and travel equipment. In fact, it used to be a family owned business that made travel equipment for French royalty.

Like Leica for cameras (with the M3), Louis Vuitton revolutionized travel equipment with their special material for steam trunks. And their flat-top design, which was also a innovation in a time when trunks had curved tops, making them very difficult to stack and transport. In recent years, Louis Vuitton became the first to use "canvas" material for their duffles which is a genius combination of flexibility and durability.

Can't say much about their Marc Jacobs lead fashion apparel venture, but their travelling goods are definitely similar to Leica in terms of traditional quality.

Not to be argumentative, but I'm just saying... :p

LOL? I have been waiting and waiting.. trying to stay optimistic. I took a trip and missed shots due to slow af.. I'm tired of that and waiting.

Fuji will be here in march.. what's leica going to say in q2.. 'oh sorry, another short while?"

Eddie, I didn't know you sold yours.

Stkorn - speculation.. because really it's taking sooooo long there has to be SOME reason besides incompetence.

Obviously! In less than one year after launch into the market place Olympus, Sigma, Ricoh, Sony large sensor compact cameras had all more than one FW upgrade.

Edward - I did, and you know how much I love that camera. Love the images, love the large prints I can make with it. But AF killed it for me. It just took too much extra effort to make it work for me. I realize I had to change my photography style too much, and that was a compromise I wasn't willing to make. The M8 was a better fit. Larger though, but sigh. Compromises, compromises.

Well the one on consignment here is imo too expensive (compared to offerings I've seen lately).. but I'll have a look and see what I can find.

The x100 is coming, I want a rangefinder and have for a while, but like you find the price of the m9 offputting. I'd rather spend more on rf lenses now and get a used m9 when the m10 comes out, or see if other manufacturers release bodies.. or get the m10, who knows.

In the interim, my 7d and gf1 will serve.. the latter likely to be replaced by the x100

I love the iq of the x1, but it doesn't work well as a 'snaps' camera.. which is a requirement for a compact.. I feel x1 owners have been very patient.. but leica are now taking the p!$$

Carlos,

For crying out loud revisiting this forum with many same line of posts to match would not constitute looking back??!! :D

Edward,

I tried the M8, shutter was too heavy and clunky for me. Almost like something fell inside the camera and coming from the X1 it was annoying to say the least. The shutter makes my D300 looks silent in comparison. The M8.2 will be much better. As for high iso, you dont need me to tell you... IMO bite the bullet and go for the M9 if you are okay with no AF. You will feel the pinch for only a short spell but enjoyment is much more and more avenue for cropping (larger MP) not to mention the better image rendering of fullframe...just get one or two lenses and be done with it. That was my intention initially but having tried the M9 on several occasions I came to the conclusion that AF is very important to me. Rangefinder under certain circumstances can be real tricky so my hat goes off to those who can do it lightning fast. As for street shooting using zone focus I personally will not buy an M for that but rather use my DSLR, coz the allure is to shoot with legendary lux lenses at shallow dof for that creamy look haha....

This is just BS. The M8 is still quieter than the Nikon and the M8.2 isn't that huge of a difference.
