I didn't think so either.

And don't care what anyone believes. In a matter of weeks you'll see for yourself I'm honest and correct in my brief evaluation on v2.0. Hopefully we find there's more to be happy about too.

Funny, there's a real pattern that's apparent on this forum with most threads, and this one is following suit.

Soap drama aside, my thanks for your original post and the important info...

Seriously wonder how many really shoot with their x1 though..but to each his own!

What amazes me is over a year since the X1 launch and the X1 still gets quite a bit of negativity..maybe its too good/bad?

Will be off to India early december and this time with the X1 AND my DSLR gear. LAst time I went with just the X1(and got a load of keepers), this time I do want to do on-the-spot comparisons myself. And all the nikkors I will use are the 1.4s. Really curious.

The firmware update will be a great thing for all X1 users and people on the fence, but I see the X1 as a good compact and do not use MF on it so it suits me fine as it is. But I aint complaining if they are to improve on it.

ChiTown, there are funny noises and irritating noises here, just ignore the latter and you'll have fun...

We do need more threads like this, but an occasional BS thread is still fun to read, on a boring day.:)

Hey, Martin--I keep clicking on "Download" and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Sorry Brent, i have not told you that they have stopped the Download for 2.0 because there is already the 3.0 Version available. It will be downloadable soon in the USA. i'll tell you.... :D

I heard 3.0 allows the flash to rotate and ups the sensor to full frame...

Hi ChiTown,

Thank you for sharing this information with us. While I had every confidence the AF would be addressed it is good to hear about the MF improvements. The DNG only option would of course be nice but I did wonder why they did not do this already if it were to be simple.

I agree... but the focus speed was a known problem when I bought the camera... what I did NOT know was the lack of DNG only. This is my biggest complaint with the camera and I cannot believe it is because of the preview... it is only recently that SLRs ADDED the "feature" of RAW+jpg.

The current DNG + jpg adds a big pain to the workflow for RAW shooters and is a big enough problem to NOT recommend the camera to RAW shooters (the jpgs are as good as jpg's can be, but they are not as good as the RAW and just slow down an already slow system to do both)... sorry to sound like a rant, but I'm hoping someone at Leica sometimes reads these posts...

cheers,

tom

Thats right and the "Special MIB Edition" is also availible with that Neuralisator thing, masked as a flash :D

Yes, it's true. There's a beta version of the new firmware out.

No PNG only option. Though when asked I was answered with a suggestion that the camera needed the JPG for the review/preview and it was not likely change. "but I'm not an engineer"....

This was my reasoning to begin with for why there was no DNG option- playback is slow enough without that camera having to load 20mb previews. However, what do other cameras do in this regard if they have a RAW only option? Do they shoot a JPG thumbnail the exact size of the screen and not make it available in the file system for import?

Nikon RAW (NEF) files include an embedded JPG for preview purposes. I am unsure of the resolution, but I think it is fairly large.
