Adarsha Posted March 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have both, but find you can't leave both attached to the camera body at the same time, which is a bit of a pain. Yes, I have tried to have both on.. I have the standard Leica neck strap and a recently bought leather strap courtesy of the lovely Luigi. Anybody have any preference, and why? Advertisement Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Hi Adarsha, Take a look here Wrist strap? or Neck strap? with M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
erl Posted March 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2011 You might consider the basic difference between both devices. The wrist strap helps you take pictures, when properly used, the other only carries the camera, albeit very clumsily! There are other options. MEB Posted March 27, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 27, 2011 I use the A&A silk rope strap. I wrap it around my right wrist several times and it serves as a wrist strap but I can (rarely), when I want, use it around my neck. Mark Blumer
gib_robinson Posted March 27, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 27, 2011 Most of the time I use a "Y" strap Y Strap I don't like neck straps because they hang around my neck and I it gets sore after a while. Also when I lean over the camera can bang into things. I don't like wrist straps because it encumbers my hand, although I use them on occasion. --Gib
gjames9142 Posted March 27, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 27, 2011 Don't like the fussy clip system of the strap that comes with the camera, so used the strap which comes with the XI -- it's leather and will get softer and more flexible over time. On the XI I use an A&A wrist strap, which is perfect. The X1 will always fit into a copious pocket, the M9 not. The trouble with the wrist strap is it always has to be on the wrist, unless, of course, you are a bag toter.
Paul Verrips Posted March 27, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 27, 2011 Maybe this is an option ?
d2mini Posted March 27, 2011 Share #7 Posted March 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like my Gordy wrist strap if I'm shooting out of a bag. If I'm not carrying a bag, I like the Gordy sling. Sometimes I'll use a traditional neck strap which I can use either with a bag or without, but generally I prefer one of the other two choices. Adarsha Posted March 27, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted March 27, 2011 Maybe this is an option ? Now that's a good idea, best of both... which to be honest is the perfect solution for all eventualities! like it
tdtaylor Posted March 27, 2011 Share #9 Posted March 27, 2011 I find myself in different situations which drive me to either a neck strap of a wrist strap. I bought both from Luigi, with the "D" snap fasteners, so changing one out for the other take 3 or 4 second tops. On my Nikon equipment, I usually use a BlackRapid. IkarusJohn Posted March 27, 2011 Share #10 Posted March 27, 2011 I have both, but find you can't leave both attached to the camera body at the same time, which is a bit of a pain. Yes, I have tried to have both on.. I have the standard Leica neck strap and a recently bought leather strap courtesy of the lovely Luigi. Anybody have any preference, and why? I have the same kit, and the same issues. I like using the Luigi wrist strap, but if you're not actually taking a picture, or thinking about taking a picture, that means I'll have my bag on my shoulder which can become a drag. If I'm out, the M9 with a lens on it is too big for a pocket, and having the camera on my wrist a nuisance, so I'll take the Leica k neckstrap. I can't think of a better arrangement for the moment - I hate straps and things hanging off my kit, but they do serve a purpose. The wrist strap lives on my M9, and I change to the neckstrap when I'm going out with one lens and I don't want to carry my bag. Cheers John
spylaw4 Posted March 28, 2011 Share #11 Posted March 28, 2011 I use the A&A silk neck strap - works well for both neck and wrist. Soft and flexible, with a tiny bit of "spring" in it when it's round the neck, and can easily be wrapped round one's wrist. Doesn't chafe and absorbs sweat in hot climates. Works best on the wrist with a handgrip (e.g. Leica or a 1/2 case with grip bulge). Saves pfaffing about changing straps!
pico Posted March 28, 2011 Share #12 Posted March 28, 2011 I must be the only person who finds the standard M9 (and M7) strap acceptable. It is light, the pad stays in place. However, vanity and curiosity got me to get two CarrySafe straps for the M7s. I have removed the quick release from one.

pico Posted March 28, 2011 Share #14 Posted March 28, 2011 And here I thought I was the only one who found the original Leica strap acceptable... So you are the other one! Say, you wouldn't also happen to have skirts over your car's rear wheels, would you? I do. My next Leica will be recovered in shelf paper. What variety! Jeff S Posted March 28, 2011 Share #18 Posted March 28, 2011 Not only have I used standard M straps for some decades now, the accessory business wouldn't exist with folks like me. Naked camera...no buttons, no thumb things, no new coverings, no grips, no cases, nadda. Just a couple of bags for transport...oh, and a black dot for a chrome M8.2. These things, or lack thereof, have neither helped nor hindered my photographic results or enjoyment; that's all been on me. Different strokes.
