Allnm Posted March 27, 2011 Share #42  Posted March 27, 2011 It's remarkable how many folks who no longer own the X1 feel so compelled to be here, blathering away. Seems their purchases since still haven't filled the void. I mean really, isn't there a nice Fuji forum to go rant on? I wonder how long it will be after the honeymoon period before they start complaining there, and that forum gets sick of them....  I heard theres a new feature in the X1 V2 firmware where you have to connect the camera to your PC/Mac to enable posting on Leica forums  I still think its amusing when new and prospective X100 owners have to post how much better than the X1 it is. From all the images and comparisons I have seen, I havent really seen any concrete evidence. I still prefer the X1 images, even the high iso X1 images have a nicer, more natural look. Solar B Posted March 27, 2011 Share #43 Â Posted March 27, 2011 John in my experience Leicas hold their value much better "pro-rata" (as already stated) than any other manufacturer .... iam 100% postitive that they will hold their value far better than the X100 (esp over time) , after all we are talking about Leica V Fugi on the Secondhand market !!!!! , there is no comparison in the average consumers eye. Iam not an X1 owner nor do i longer aspire to be but the facts remain. Â Brian
elbonedeedo Posted March 27, 2011 Share #44  Posted March 27, 2011 dear elbowkneedo[sic], why is sein reid publishing the BETA version review of the firmware v2.0 NOW when the actual version might be released in a few days?  do you have an opinion? this is not offensive is it?  Don't know, and since I'm not a subscriber to his review site I don't really care. Besides, opinion on someone else's motivations is just speculation, and not really useful. I'll wait the *gasp* two more days or so and experience the new FW myself. wda Posted March 27, 2011 Share #45 Â Posted March 27, 2011 I also sold my X1 to get the Fuji but I can't say I disliked the x-1. The biggest factor for me was lack of a viewfinder. I used an external viewfinder but that's not always convenient with an autofocus. Also I wear glasses and the voigtlander finder I used, while nice optically, didn't have the right eye relief. .... What a pity you economized and failed to try the excellent Leica viewfinder!
stephen.w Posted March 28, 2011 Share #46  Posted March 28, 2011 Sorry folks, with 2 days left on my passport, I have had the X1 for nearly year. And I really just can't get on with it. It can take some stunning photos, I have a few hanging on my walls. But I have missed too many shots though over exposure, slow and inaccurate focusing, and it just being a camera I can't bond with. I loved my DLUX 4, maybe I should have stuck with that. I have just sold it on for only £70 less than I paid for it a year ago, one thing good I can say about Leicas, they do hold their value. Now I'm going to buy an Fujifilm X100. So so long folks. Ciao, Bad. I'd have been tempted to wait and check out tomorrow's firmware update changes things. stephen.w Posted March 28, 2011 Share #47 Â Posted March 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looking at sites that have done controlled tests against the X1, I have concluded the IQ is marginally better than that of the X1 but lacking a decent RAW processor it is hard to be definitive. The lens appears to be slightly better than the X1's and it is appearing from the moire that occasionally shows up with the X100 & the moire clearly visible in resolution test charts that it may have an even weaker AA filter or none. For some that is good and for others it isn't. When it comes to high ISO, it is just incredible and other independent test have confirmed that. However, I have first hand experience and I know it is the best I have scene comparing well to very high end DSLRs. The low level of noise, its nature, the detail held and the color depth are the outstanding factors. Before Fuji came out with the X100, Leica was the only company making digital cameras which handled like film cameras. Usability is by far the main criterion for my prefering one camera over another. Minor differences in image quality are neither here nor there. A decent manual focus scale and the fact that the camera will now remember your previous manual focus settings transforms the X1. Improved autofocus speed is nice, but nothing short of DSLR focus speed really suffices for street work.

dhsimmonds Posted April 27, 2011 Share #49  Posted April 27, 2011 I don't suppose anybody else here remembers that Fuji made the first Leica digitals... Bill  I had completely forgotten that fact Bill! I did own a Fuji HDM-1 waterproof little compact 35mm film camera back in the seventies and early eighties. I used it when sailing, sea kataking etc.It was a great little camera with a superb fixed 38mm Fujinon lens.  The X100 reminds me of it in fact. Fuji also made several medium format film cameras which even now are very highly prized by landscape photographers. Just to add to their street cred, Hasselblad even dropped Zeiss in favour of Fujinon lenses for their digital m/f cameras!  I think that the X1 is a great compact camera and it is a real Leica, but like many others I don't care for external viewfinders and LCD viewers are not for me either for serious photography. OK if used with a black cloth over one's head in bright sunlight!
