patrick parker Posted March 22, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted March 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) why don't they apologize for the firmware delay? then we can think " maybe they do care about their customers who are into photography " wouldn't that be just amazing? Â they can say something like " for reasons bla bla we cannot bla bla we apologize for making you wait and check dpreview every other day. we really don't suck" or something. jsrockit Posted March 22, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted March 22, 2011 Have they ever officially said they are working on a firmware update? did they promise it on a certain date that has passed? or was it all word of mouth?
mjh Posted March 22, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted March 22, 2011 why don't they apologize for the firmware delay? So far there is no delay. They said a new firmware would probably become available in March, and the end of March is still over a week off. And if it should turn out that it takes more time (because bugs discovered during the beta period need to be squashed first) then delaying the release would be no reason to apologize. (Releasing firmware with known bugs would.)

Le Samourai Posted March 22, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted March 22, 2011 I don't post much, but I lurk here everyday, sadly I must say the x1 forum is the worst forum I visit on the Internet. Junk.
Zipy2691 Posted March 22, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted March 22, 2011 I know I am repeating myself but see the reply from Leica USA I got a few months ago: Â Dear Yves Saint-Pierre, Â I was able to confirm that the Leica factory in Germany is looking to address the speed of the AF in a future firmware upgrade. The next upgrade is not expected until sometime in the new year, perhaps by the end of the winter. Keep in mind that purchasing a camera at the same time does not guarantee the new version is already loaded but users can do the upgrade themselves at home. Douglasco Posted March 23, 2011 Share #13 Â Posted March 23, 2011 The reason it is the worst forum on the internet is because we have one member in particular on the forum who has critisized the X1 at every available opportunity from its inception. Even now he ownes the fuji x100 he continues to post his anti X1 crap on this forum. Â next we have the regular wind up merchants who get some sort of pleasure from knocking the comments folks put. This drives away a lot of good folk from posting and maybe if more lurkers stopped lurking and posted something things may change.
azulmarino Posted March 23, 2011 Share #14 Â Posted March 23, 2011 A few weeks ago I posted "What now for the Leica X1" ... my first post and the bad mannered arrogant answers I got certainly puts me off posting again. Soon after the people that rudely answered me were busy posting to the "peter-lueck-concept-x1" thread. This forum is a closed club for "buddies" and does nothing to instill outside interest or debate. Le Samourai is 100% correct ... I will lurk also , but hopefully this will be my last post. They should go on the forums only to approve what a smart purchase they've made.  come on guys, how else will leica improve on their products services if don't complain.  it used to be great when leica had no rivals but this has changed since they decided to play their game. i have an emotional attachment to this brand , i truly want it to rise again.  leica deserves more attention. ChiILX1 Posted March 23, 2011 Share #17 Â Posted March 23, 2011 What did people do in the old days when the camera they bought had widely known issues and lacked features they didn't ay for but wanted anyway? Â I solved the firmware issue by joining the market for an M2 (while still enjoying the hell out of my X1). I like the idea of owning a camera with no firmware at all, or electricity. It's not worth the frustration of reading about [insert X1 complaint here]. Â A camera company with a handful of employees that makes handmade cameras made a digital compact with amazing quality and image capability and they should apologize? We should be thanking them. As should Fuji X100 owners. Â But I think this thread is great because it brings to the forefront what so many consumers now a days truly believe- that the world owes them something. mattnnz Posted March 23, 2011 Share #19 Â Posted March 23, 2011 Not sure if the world owes us anything. But most of us are hoping like hell the firmware improves the focusing issues. I don't care what anyone says it IS an issue. It affects the handling of the camera in a big way.It causes a person to really have to bend to the limitations of the camera. These sorts of issues are a commercial for open source firmware. If people could modify the firmware, it really allow the users to improve the product in way the manufacturer could have never imagined. There are ways to make only certain parts of the firmware open. I have never understood why companies are so afraid of this.
Douglasco Posted March 23, 2011 Share #20 Â Posted March 23, 2011 I do not have a problem with genuine criticism about the cameras issues but with the same repetitive anti Leica posts by the same boring forum members its no surprise we have members that would rather lurk than get involved in the forums posts.
