Lost. Posted March 17, 2011 Share #1  Posted March 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently while doing what I do, travel by motorbike and making images, I had quite a violent crash with my X1 right there with me tumbling down the road at fast speed due to a mechanical failure on my bike. I keep my X1 in a HPRC 2100 hard case, similar to a Pelican case. The case is mounted to my tank on my bike, and as you will see it took quite a hit. My Giottos screen protector did it's job, like my own safety gear so the X1 and myself basically walked away with minor injuries. The Giottos screen is cracked, but the X1 is just fine, the images look nice and sharp. Luckily I had a Drift 170 HD Stealth video camera running at 60fps, so I have it all documented....   Here's the X1 tumbling down the road with me.   (sorry this forum doesn't support imbedded video files:rolleyes:.)  Click here:  BMW F800 GS Crash on Vimeo

h00ligan Posted March 17, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted March 17, 2011 YIkes! More important you walked away! Â Glad you were both fine. How's the bike? I'll have to watch the video a bit later. Â Is that a black grip on your silver x1... Outlaw!
Lost. Posted March 17, 2011 Author Share #3 Â Posted March 17, 2011 The bikes has lots of damage, and I'm waiting to see it it's totaled. Â yeah, I was lucky, and was pleased my X1 survived since it's not covered under the MC insurance. As for the grip.... that was at the beginning, I no longer have anything attached to my camera besides the little strap and a tube with B+W MRC Polarizing filter at times. elbonedeedo Posted March 17, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted March 17, 2011 Hey, glad you walked away. I used to ride too, so I'm always glad to hear when a fellow rider walks away from a mishap. Glad your X1 survived as well. Â What's the old saying... there are two types of bikers, those who have been down, and those who are going down... stephen.w Posted March 17, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted March 17, 2011 Sorry to hear about the crash. My X1 and I were involved in a scooter crash in Greece last year. The camera was fine, but I had a few cuts and bruises. I've owned a Vespa GT200 since 2007, and use it almost daily. Funnily enough, I've been thinking of getting a F 800 GS too. Saw a very nice one the other day in the old Dakar F 650 GS colour scheme. Â Only a biker knows why a dog rides with his head out of the car window. Allnm Posted March 17, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted March 17, 2011 Phew, glad you and the camera survived ok. It begs the ( philosophical ) question, would you have crashed if you hadn't been wearing the helmet cam? Â Allan
phancj Posted March 17, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted March 17, 2011 I dropped mine twice. Once I broke the lens cap second time just a dent at the bottom plate. I think the X1 takes drops well coz it's light?
jpmac55 Posted March 17, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted March 17, 2011 Pretty impressive all away around - from you and the camera not getting seriously injured to the quality of the video. Most helmut camera output isn't worth watching. Â Btw, I also ride - a bicycle.

brucek Posted March 17, 2011 Share #13 Â Posted March 17, 2011 I was glad to see that you were dressed for the occasion. I don't know that I could have worn that much gear in Death Valley, even at this time of year. You were obviously very smart! Â What failed on the bike? It looked as if the front fender broke and went flying forward, but I have a hard time imagining how that would have caused you to go down.
Mr_Jones Posted March 17, 2011 Share #14 Â Posted March 17, 2011 Another biker here, just completed a tour of New Zealand with a few hair raising moments but no big offs. Hope you are recovering from your fall, great to see the X1 surviving so well. Did the front suspension collapse?

ricardojh Posted May 21, 2011 Share #20 Â Posted May 21, 2011 My wife recently ran my spare X1 battery, located in my pants pocket, through the wash. It survived, and (much to my surprise) so did my iTouch.
