Advertisement Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hi waileong, Take a look here M7 upgrade. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
!Nomad64 Posted March 14, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 14, 2011 8 weeks?!? Sounds huge... a week ago I asked how long it would take for the full upgrade of my M8 to M8.2 (finder frames, shutter & sapphire glass replacement) and they advised about a month. No backup camera? Not even an used CV? In this case don't read the news, do not attend shows, take the ugliest paths to and fro work. If you break these rules the pictures of your life will appear before your eyes whilst mocking at you "No camera! No camera!" before vanishing for ever :D Bruno

drtrm Posted March 14, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 14, 2011 When the problem with the cartridge surface reader was first recognized, I waited nine months for an optical reader installation. No regrets though, it has worked flawlessly since. T.
hilm3 Posted March 15, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 15, 2011 Just got my M7 back last week. I put it in the mail to NJ (they forwarded it to Solms) on December 23. Got it back March 9. Eleven weeks. I had the mechanical DX reader replaced with the optical reader - free of charge - and the MP viewfinder upgrade - considerable charge. I am lucky to have backups. I am very pleased with the work, by the way.

Noel That sounds a good piece of advice, but I'd respectfully remind that being mechanic they'll however require some servicing and CLA from decade to decade, although hopefully that shouldn't take 8 weeks Cheers, Bruno

CAMERA REPAIRS & RESTORATION - LUTON , ENGLAND - 2011 CRR are good, but tend to backlog if the job in complex... they are just around the corner... And M2 keep going well if you rally use them. I've only had ribbon snap after 25 years, on users. But as a back up camera you can have them manitained pre-emptively Noel

hilm3 Posted March 15, 2011 Share #11 Posted March 15, 2011 i need to send mine away for the dx upgrade, what's the going rate for the mp viewfinder? I was charged $660.00 US for the following: Adjust shutter times Adjust DIN/ASA Adjust exposure meter Modify for MP finder Clean and Adjust R/F Done under warranty at no charge: Replace DX reader Replace leather covering Adjust all parts Cleaning and End Control This is quoted straight from my invoice. I shipped my M7 from Los Angeles, CA to Leica New Jersey on Dec 23, 2010. From there it went to Solms. Got it back on March 9, 2011. The quote from Solms I received prior to the work being done was $660.00, exactly what I was charged. When I got their quote, I called NJ to approve the work and give them a credit card number. I did not sign the quote and mail it in, as by the time I got the quote from Solms it was late January and I wanted to move things along.
}{B Posted August 20, 2011 Share #12 Posted August 20, 2011 I've just bought a used M7 that has the MP viewfinder but not the upgraded optical DX reader and it still has 2 1/2 years of its five year guarantee left. In the two weeks I've owned it I've not noticed any problem with the DX function and the only roll of film I've so far put through it doesn't show any signs of under or over exposure. The camera displays the correct film speed when switched on and so as far as I can tell the mechanical DX system is functioning correctly. Given that the mechanical DX function is working will Leica upgrade my camera to the optical DX system without charge? If I wait for a problem to appear before getting it done it would be just my luck that it would show up the day after the warranty expires.
wattsy Posted August 20, 2011 Share #13 Posted August 20, 2011 Leica will do the DX upgrade even if the camera is out of warranty.
Steve33 Posted August 20, 2011 Share #14 Posted August 20, 2011 When you send your M7 for an upgrade, use the waiting time to buy yourself a nice gift...another leica M!!!
}{B Posted August 21, 2011 Share #15 Posted August 21, 2011 When you send your M7 for an upgrade, use the waiting time to buy yourself a nice gift...another leica M!!! Thanks for the replies. I need the camera for a holiday next month but after that I'll look into getting it upgraded. As for buying another Leica I already have an M2,M3 and an M4P so I'm rather spoilt for choice when to comes to which to use.

That is exactly what I did. Picked up an M3 that has some unfortunate light leaks.
