UpTop Posted March 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey guys, i hope you can help me out on this one: I just arrived in NYC today and i will be looking to do some shopping there. I know my way pretty well around the city (manhattan that is) but i've never really cared to check out camera-stores apart from B&H. Do any of you know stores that sell used Leica glass (or maybe a second body to accompany my m6)? Also, i am looking to buy an A&A bag (most likely the "Evans Walker" bag) and was wondering if there are any resellers in the city (i was thinking maybe photovillage?). And lastly i will need to buy some film, since i didn't really want to bring a whole lot. Where will i get the best deal on, say, Plus-X and Tri-X? Thank's for your help, it's highly appreciated! Also if there are any other places that are worth visiting I'd be happy to hear your thoughts. Regards, Philipp
Advertisement Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Hi UpTop, Take a look here NYC shopping guide (Leica gear, film, A&A bags...). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
piblondin Posted March 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2011 Hi Phil, For film, stick with B&H. As for used lenses, check Photo Village and Kurland Photo. Kurland is on the same floor as the Leica gallery on Broadway in NoHo. Craig who runs the shop is great to deal with. Photo Village is also a possible source for the A&A bag you want. richam Posted March 12, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 12, 2011 Also check Adorama. I got a very nice IIIf there last year for a reasonable price, and they had a stock of used cameras and glass. B&H informed me they no longer carry LTM used cameras and lenses, but have some in M-mount. Photo Village had some used equipment, but after visiting, I found out the prices (at that time) were high and the equipment needed servicing. Inventories and price change over time, so best to check out by calling and/or visiting. Good luck.

UpTop Posted March 12, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted March 12, 2011 Thanks so far. I'm leaving now, going straight to Photovillage.Tomorrow it will be B&H to stock up on film since it's closed on saturdays. On Monday I'll be checking out Kurland Photo (it's by appointment only on sundays) which is right across the street from my hotel. Let's hope i get lucky and come back with some goodies. Also, i found something on craigslist, will let you know if that works out. If you think of anything else, let me know. Philipp

UpTop Posted March 14, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks again for your responses. So yesterday i went to Photovillage to see if i can maybe find a 35mm 'cron. They did have one, the aspherical one, but it was a bit overpriced. Also i was looking to buy the A&A Evans Walker bag but they only had one A&A bag (GCAM 1100) and will probably not get any others anymore. So it will become harder and harder to get a hold of A&A bags at all if you don't happen to live in Japan. They did though have a large amount of different Black Label bags which are nice but don't seem to have the same quality as A&A. So i ended up just buying a Lens hood for my 35mm. They had quite a few used M7s in stock (i think about six of them) but i will stick with M6s for the moment. I almost bought a beautiful Rolleiflex 2.8... Today i was at B&H and bought 20 Rolls of Tri-X, 20 Rolls of Plus-X and a couple of Rolls of Efke 25. They were a lot cheaper than back home in Germany so it was worth the trip. I also picked up a lightmeter which i got to try out today and i'm pretty happy with so far. Tomorrow i will be at Kurland Photo but i fear it will be quite overpriced as well. Thank you for your kind words Pete. Currently i am using the Plustek Opticfilm 7600 since i am mostly shooting 35mm.
