mmradman Posted January 5, 2012 Share #21 Â Posted January 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Â Â I've converted all my R lenses to Leitax Sony Alpha mounts for use on the Sony FF 850 DSLR: Elmarit R 19mm, V/E 28-90mm (this was a tricky one), APO Macro f2.8 100mm, V/E 105-280mm & APO-Telyt 280mm. Â Mike, Â During bayonet conversion on 280mm f4 (also 105-280mm) did you have to remove inner shroud or you managed to keep it. Â I used my 280mm briefly converted with Leitax Nikon F mount but inner shroud was removed which at times, depending on light, induces unwanted flare. Lens is currently with original R mount + shroud happy on R film body awaiting better R digital solution.

Krauklis Posted January 5, 2012 Share #24  Posted January 5, 2012 Sigma cameras will convert to R mount with focus confirmation. The problem there is that their most interesting camera is prohibitively expensive (APS-C in the 9000$ range?)   The link for the conversion of Sigma cameras (R mount):  Sigma Cum Laude Home page  krauklis
Krauklis Posted January 5, 2012 Share #25  Posted January 5, 2012 In "Leica APO-Telyt-R 180mm f/3.4 3-CAM", was does 3-CAM or 1-, 2-CAM indicate? Thanks, K-H.  I've always found this thread helpful, especially # 23,31,33 and 34. The table in #33 is very useful.  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/analog-forum/72156-einstieg-ins-r-system.html  In this context here the German terms Steuerelement, Steuerkurve and R Nocken all mean cam.  So the title for the column 2 Steuerkurven plus R Nocken could just be 3 cam.     krauklis
wildlightphoto Posted January 6, 2012 Share #26 Â Posted January 6, 2012 Â Questions: Â Can both types of extenders support all the same lenses? Â Aside from clearance issues, yes. Note that there were never any ROM versions of the 1.4x APO-Extender-R. The 1.4x APO-Extender-R has a protruding front that limits its compatability with some lenses. Â Can one use an RCAM lens on an R ROM extender? And vice versa? Â Yes, no problem. Â I presume the 280/4 lens has manual focus only but diaphragm control on some R cameras. On my planned systems I have to set the aperture manually, right? Â Yup.
spydrxx Posted January 6, 2012 Share #27 Â Posted January 6, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I finally gave up on the Leica R system and sold off the last of my R gear about 3 weeks ago. I did keep a 400/6.3 Telyt however, as I can use it on my Nikon via an adapter I already had. Over the years it was intersting that this lens was made with one tube and male fitting to fit the R series cameras as well as another length tube and male fitting to use on the the M series (via the Visoflex route). I've had several models over the years, but my current one is for M series and came with a 14167 adapter to use on the R bodies. I went through the Leitax adapters, converting ROM lenses to 3 cams, as well as a modified Sigma SD14 to use the unmodified R lenses. After a while I just realized (in my mind, at least) that for the most part I was tosing money down the drain. The R8 and SL2 bodies were great cameras, but I found others with similar features and functionality which better met my needs. So, with regards to Leica, I'm back to the M side of things. k-hawinkler Posted January 6, 2012 Author Share #28 Â Posted January 6, 2012 Hi spydrxx, Â Thanks for the feedback. I agree the M9 and M-lenses are my primary setup as well. Â I also have the 400/6.8 Telyt-V (mine says 6.8 not 6.3) and a bunch of older M-lenses whose lens heads with corresponding short focus mounts can be used on a Visoflex III or with adapter on my Nikons. Â The easiest way to use R-lenses currently, to me seems to be, to use them with an adapter on Canon EOS or Sony NEX cameras, thus avoiding a Leitax conversion. Unfortunately not all R-lenses clear the Canon DSLR mirror. I have and like Nikon gear, so I am not interested in the Canon setup. The Sony NEX route is interesting and doable as one only needs an adapter and not a converter, one for M- and one for R-lenses. Until it becomes clear which future Leica cameras might support or not support R-lenses I will hold back on a conversion to the Nikon F mount. Â Why am I interested in doing this? Well, some of the R-lenses are absolutely stellar performers that can produce incredible image quality, only second to none. That's reason enough for me to go down this path as well in addition to M- and Nikon gear.. Â Also, the entire photographic and camera/lens industry is rapidly evolving and hopefully additional approaches succeed so that one can continue to use these lens treasures on latest generations of cameras. Â Best, K-H.
