75mm Summarit question

I don´t think he means the hood. The protection ring should be bolted on the lens.If not, someone took it out of the box!

Exactly! It's the protection ring that's missing. Can't find it anywhere. They must have taken it out of the box!

I bought my 75mm Summilux as a demo model. It came without the ring, but it did come with the optional hood in place - a good tradeoff IMO.

The ring is available from Leica if you really want one. Not cheap though...

If you bought the matching hood at the same time, have a look in the hood's box, just in case it was put in there for safe-keeping.

Otherwise, I would suggest that you contact the supplier and request that they rectify this promptly.

Someone may send you one, but they are not useful you need the hood, CV dont sell their long focus lenses without a hood, Leica have lost the plot again...

Another little tidbit of info: the metal hood reverses on the 75 (and I expect on the 90 Summarit) and screws in backwards for storage. The metal cap fits over the back end of the hood when it is on that way too. Makes the lens very compact.

Same thing happened to me. Bought mine used, came with the hood, but no ring. Why would anybody throw this away?

Jim, do you know the replacement cost?

Could somebody please post a picture of that ring?

You can use either the ring or the hood (normal or backwards):

By weird coincidence, I bought a 75 Summarit today, and the ring also appeared to be missing

It had come loose and was INSIDE the front lens cap, held to the felt lining by friction. It's so small and light we'd taken the cap off 2-3 times without it ever falling out or being noticed.

I kid you not!

From Leica in NJ: Front Ring 421-091-001-007 $24.00

You can order it directly from them or ask your dealer to order it for you.

BTW, if you need the lens cap too (I did) here's the info on it: Lens Cap 014-475 $48.00

Actually, inside the lens caps is where I keep my Summarits' protection rings while using the hoods—that is, most of the time. There, they won't get lost or bent.

Hi

The CV normal & wides have a similar arrangement, cap with felt lining, & short hood.

The simplest way of removing the short hood is to push on the cap and unscrew it (the cap) as the ring will distort if you try to unscrew it by hand, and lock on, even if it is loose enough to be undone by the friction with the cap.
