The light in Antarctica was amazingly crisp, it is one of the driest places on the planet with about 0% humidity and no atmospheric haze. No PP in this picture except conversion to JPEG.  Japan continues to hunt up to 850 Minke Whales in the Antarctic annually, for "research purposes". stuny Posted March 7, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted March 7, 2011 Mike - Â Excellent! Â It bothers me that both Japanese and Norwegian ships still hunt whales.
jaapv Posted March 7, 2011 Share #3 Â Posted March 7, 2011 Great shot and great story. There is a lot of interest over here in this issue, as the Sea Shepherd vessels sail under the Dutch flag, provoking a diplomatic clash between Holland and Japan over this matter recently. michali Posted March 11, 2011 Author Share #9 Â Posted March 11, 2011 Al- thank you for the compliment! I agree with Stuart it's really disturbing that these whales are still being hunted in their hundreds and especially in a protected environment. Â I hope that Japan abandoning the whale hunt this year and citing safety reasons due to harassment from Sea Shepherd, is actually a face-saving way of dropping it all together. We'll see what happens next year.
