... I have heard numerous horror stories about terrible correspondence and taking forever to get the work done...

You'll hear those same stories about any repairman. There are a couple current threads on the topic, with some people complaining they can't get X to answer the phone or respond to email, and others saying they were just in touch with him last week and that he does excellent work.

If you check the forum, you'll also find many happy tales of quick and accurate work by Allendale. But you're right that they don't offer as much hand-holding as some people want. :p

Jim, Jaapv, thanks.

I did focus tests on a brick building about 50m away (all throughout the aperture from f/2-f/16) and focus was consistently beyond the building with the summicron yet spot on with the summaron (f/3.5-f/22). I guess it seems to be focusing behind the subject?

So what it comes down to is that if the lens is recalibrated for the M6 there's a chance it still won't be quite up to par on the M8. I would rather not have to send the lens to Leica USA as I have heard numerous horror stories about terrible correspondence and taking forever to get the work done. Does anyone know offhand if Youxin Ye will calibrate lenses to the "M8/9 standard?"

If Youxin can't do it I suggest that you send it to DAG (Don Goldberg). He has adjusted the focus of many of my older M lenses to the M8/M9 standard, and I'm well satisfied with the results. Just be sure that you tell him that you are using an M8/M9.

Regards, Jim

Is there anything wrong, once you have tested the lens, to putting a small correction mark next to the focus index pointer on the lens barrel? It would go on one side or the other depending whether you are using a back focus or front focus lens. I would like to know because I have ordered a LensAlign kit from Michael Tapes to test all my lenses including the SLR's. The SLR's have a micro adjustment program to correct internally, but for the RF cameras, I would think that a small correction mark would solve the problem by focusing and then moving the focus ring slightly to the correction mark to compensate.

Bad idea or good?
