thomasl.se Posted February 16, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) No troll attempt. Sincerely looking for input and info. My personal favourite lens is the Summilux-R 80. I'm sure I'd enjoy any discussions on 75 vs 80 luxes or M8 vs 5Dii but for now let me cut to the chase: - What are your experiences if any, or informed opinions on using Leica-R lenses on M8? Specifically the 80. With an M8, my two lens-kit would be 35-M and (75-M)/80-R. Regards, Thomas

jaapv Posted February 16, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2011 The 75 Summilux is virtually identical to the R 80. Why should you attempt to use such a lens which needs to be focussed exactly without RF coupling?
thomasl.se Posted February 16, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted February 16, 2011 The 75 and 80 can be described as virtually identical, indeed. I've never had the pleasure to use a 75 lux yet from images I've seen I personally concur with those who cherish the small differences, particularly in the aperture range of ca f1.4-2.0. Some may prefer the sharper performance of the 75. I find characteristics are similar but not more than similar. I may for practical reasons with M opt for the 75 but only very reluctantly ever give up my 80. Maybe personal experience with the 75 would have my position on the 75/80 change, maybe not. At this point, I wish to inform myself on the topic for this thread. Maybe it's not a good idea for any number of reasons; maybe it will work nicely. Either way, with valuable input of this board's collective knowledge, I might be able to make a sufficiently informed decision on my next camera purchase. stunsworth Posted February 16, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2011 Your chances of focussing an f1.4 lens wide open without rangefinder coupling are minimal to non-existent. It isn't a practical combination IMHO.
earleygallery Posted February 16, 2011 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2011 Why not just get an adaptor and try it? (assuming you already own the lens) Chances are though that you'll find it difficult to use in practice as pointed out already.
