Hello Forum.

Maybe similar posts has been on the forum before but I encountered a strange phenomenon with my M9 and SanDisk 16GB Extreme 20Mb/s card.

Taking a series of images after eachother is what I usually do. I know the M9 puts a maximum of 8 in its memory and locks up when you start taking the 9th image while it is still writing.

Yesterday suddenly, while nothing seemed wrong and the camera took it's time to write the images I took, it seemed afterward that appox. 20 images in row were not written properly and have only 0 kb instead of 36.4 Mb.

I did not notice that during photographing and that scares me a lot...

After that series the camera recorded normally again.

Is this a familiar subject to you? And what is there to be done about? the cards I use are fairly new and bought at my usual camerashop in Holland, so no counterfeits I assume.

do you have advise?

Thanks and greetings from the Netherlands.

There has been a user, who had issues with his M9 not recording images occasionally without warning, who wrote about his frustrations with this issue.

He had his camera several times in service.

I can't remember though who it was. You might get in touch with him (I think, he wrote about these issues in beginning of 2010).

I currently have the same problem with SanDisk 8 GB Extreme III, 16 GB ultra 15 MB/sec and Ultra 32 GB 15 MB/sec.

Here are some of my posts (part. in German):

I would highly appreciate it, if anyone could help!

When I got my M9 in 2009, I got a number of Sandisk ultra 16GB cards. These have been and are still performing flawless. Last summer I bought 2 additional Sandisk 16GB Ultra's. These gave me the same problems as you are describing. I test my cards always using H2testw. Based on these tests it was clear, that these last 2 cards were different then the 6 I got initial, the write speed is only 4-5mb/sec (which is still a valid speed for a class6 card), while the originals have a write speed around 9mb/sec. I have not been able to verify if these 2 cards were counterfeit. Lately I got some transcend 16GB class 10 cards, which until now are also performing flawless. The 2 "bad" cards are not used anymore in the M9.

One remark, when the cards are used in an other system, and that system has write access, for instance the DNG's are moved from the cards to disk on a PC using a card reader, you should ALWAYS do a format in the M9, before using it again.

Even when purchased from reputable dealers, Sandisk cards can be counterfeits. One of the symptoms is low write speeds compared to the originals, another unexpected data loss.

Hello Meino.

What is H2testw?

Bert

h2testw is a test and verify program for testing flash cards. It runs under windows, just google for download h2testw and you will find several location where you can download it.

This is true. Do a Google search for "fake Sandisk" to find the little outward signs of counterfeits. I've had no problems with real Sandisk.
