wetworx Posted February 11, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) probably a dumb question, but should there be any issues changing lenses on an M3 if there is film currently in the camera? the shutter is still closed so no light would enter correct? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Hi wetworx, Take a look here changing lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
timd. Posted February 11, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2011 No. Look inside, usually they fit a piece of black cloth in there to protect your film. Don't worry, if you press the shutter button, it will go away for a limited amount of time to let light in.
giordano Posted February 11, 2011 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2011 Yes - but don't do it in direct sunlight and don't leave the shutter uncovered for longer than necessary. The shade of your body is enough.

Xmas Posted February 11, 2011 Share #5 Posted February 11, 2011 thanks! so changing lenses (in the shade) is ok...my appreciation for the confirmation If you do it standing up and drop a lens you will probably need a replacement, unless you can juggle, a coffee table is lower in height and exposure. Thanks! That's the whole point! Of course you need a 2nd lens as well, or a piece of card, black tape and a pin

Of course you need a 2nd lens as well, or a piece of card, black tape and a pin … or several pins, if you have more than one pin hole to stuff in that curtain …
adan Posted February 12, 2011 Share #11 Posted February 12, 2011 should there be any issues changing lenses on an M3 if there is film currently in the camera? There shouldn't be, but in older cameras the light traps in the slots where the shutter curtains travel sometimes get worn out. I had an M4-2 that at age 20 or so leaked light if the sun got in the front while changing lenses. It became a habit to swing the camera to my shady side (no comments!) for lens changing.
