I will buy a brand new X1 and I need the help of the specialists in this forum. What is the most beatiful and desirable the new Leica X1 Black or the classic Leica X1 Steel Grey?spe

I took a liking to the X1 when released - but spent many months deliberating and only bought one when the black version became available.

Part of the reason being is that I prefer black - BUT from experience with the Digilux 2 and Digilux 3 noticed that the chrome / grey started wearing off the buttons on the back plate. My black V-Lux 1 despite being hammered in use much more than the D2 and D3 still remains unworn.

The Black one doesn't point so much attraction, it's more "invisible"

important if you take "real world" pictures around the world in difficult regions=

less "blinking" means better change that snippers won't spot you...

...but if you regularly usual only shot flowers, it shouldn't bother you anyway....:D

Personally, unless you really need the camera now, I'd wait until the X100 is out, compare and decide then. Of course the X100 is only available in chrome so far.

A very good point. Go ahead and decide for yourself!

Nonsense, old chap. It's the photographer that attracts the attention, not the camera.

If you really want to go 'stealty' in the street, wear a high vis jacket, and maybe a hard hat. No one will give you a second thought.

The finish of your camera top/bottom plate has nothing to do with whether or not people notice you.

How about none, If I were you, I would re read through all the threads in this forum concerning the X1 and its short comings twice before you make any firm commitment or decision too buy this camera. This camera is great as a second camera for still photography, however it has quite a bit of short comings per its initial hype from 18 months ago. Just suggesting that you really think it over before you buy especially at that price point. Maybe look into a used one? they can be bought now for around $1350.00 - $1500.00

good luck

the black x1 looks cool with it's textured leather finish and the controls are a bit tighter but the silver one still looks more distinctive. i prefer the look of the silver model by miles

I like a lot, the look of the Steel-Grey model, but, the point is that the finishing and the materials used in it, are not so good comparing the new Black model.

Everybody are saying that the new Black model is a quality upgrade than the first one.

If there were any deficiencies in the silver x1, they would have been corrected prior to the black one's production (if the black is 'improved')

I have a silver, my dials are fine, and I see nothing other than conjecture to indicate the black ones are any different.

There seem to have been issues earlier on, but I haven't read of too many things in a while.

I've had mine since May, it's a silver one, no peeling skin, or loose dials.

Please point to the evidence that the materials in the black camera are better - or even different.

Please provide links where 'everybody' is saying that the black model is a quality upgrade.
