bill Posted February 7, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Everything's suddenly squooshed over to the left, with blog, "hot topics" and twitter columns suddenly appearing on the right. I REALLY don't want to see these things Regards, Bill

bill Posted February 7, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted February 7, 2011 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Not good... This adds absolutely no value whatsoever to me when I come here and is just a source of real irritation. I don't think I am alone in wanting a "clean" user interface that allows me to focus on content, without attempted hijacking. Really don't like this at all. LUF Admin Posted February 7, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 7, 2011 Hi, this is the new layout of the start page I asked users about some days ago: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/about-leica-forum/162477-beta-version-new-forum-start-page.html What you see is not as intended - what browser do you use? bill Posted February 7, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted February 7, 2011 Hi Andreas, thanks for the prompt response. I use Firefox on all machines. Hopefully you can see my point. Not good at all. Interestingly, I have just followed your link back in the other thread - remember I couldn't see a difference at the time? Now I can, and it's what I have just shown above, and it is ghastly. LUF Admin Posted February 7, 2011 Share #6 Posted February 7, 2011 Hi, I think I use almost the identical configuration like you and it looks for me different: Welcome, dear visitor! Looks as if the iFrame with the classifieds doesn' show up. Andreas
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! bill Posted February 7, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted February 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do, but that isn't the problem. I don't need or want ANY of the stuff on the right hand side to show up. This morning the content I was interested in stretched the width of the page. I could read it easily, at a glance. If I wanted to go to the Blog, to Twitter, to Facebook or the Buy and Sell I could do so when I chose. Now my UI looks like a teenager's bedroom floor. I hate it. Please can we go back to how it was? This is NOT good. Seriously. It wasn't broken. It didn't need fixing. What I am looking at now is about as user-friendly as a three-wheeled shopping trolley. :( Regards, Bill
pop Posted February 7, 2011 Share #8 Posted February 7, 2011 I can't say that the new design makes much of a difference for me. After all, it seems to be restricted to the forum's home page which is never long on display on my computer. Sadly, I seem to lack much of the sensitivity of my discerning friend Bill. What I find a bit more irritating is the vertical placement of the side bar in the subforum page (e.g. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/about-leica-forum/). The quick search tool will only become visible when you scroll down the page by about one third. That applies to both Chrome and Firefox on Ubuntu Linux. stunsworth Posted February 7, 2011 Share #11 Posted February 7, 2011 Can't say it makes much difference to me personally - in fact I hadn't noticed it until Bill pointed it out. Whatever the arrangement it won't please everyone.
andybarton Posted February 7, 2011 Share #12 Posted February 7, 2011 This is my home screen. I don't object to the columns on the right hand side at all. They're not adverts, they are potential useful information and links. Welcome, dear visitor! bill Posted February 7, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted February 7, 2011 They're not adverts, they are potential useful information and links. No, they are not adverts, they are noise. Background racket in an otherwise quiet room. This: "Getting wet at Sydney Opera House but got my Leica M9 and 15mm and a Mojito. Not so bad." ...is not what I call useful information - by any means. It is clutter, pure and simple. Really not good. But Andreas and I have moved this to PM so I will say no more here. stunsworth Posted February 7, 2011 Share #14 Posted February 7, 2011 Bill, you are of course entitled to your opinion, but personally I find it no more of an intrusion than forum threads that I have no interest in. In other words no intrusion at all.
bill Posted February 7, 2011 Author Share #15 Posted February 7, 2011 I can see I am out of step here. So be it. Maybe I am alone in feeling like somebody has come into my house and rearranged the furniture to make room for cheap rubbish from Ikea. Not happy. Nicoleica Posted February 7, 2011 Share #18 Posted February 7, 2011 ...... to make room for cheap rubbish from Ikea. Ahem! Excuse me Bill, but Ikea make some very nice furniture. Most of my furniture is from Ikea. It is great quality and dates back to when I lived in Sweden.
