juwobe Posted February 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello I´ve got a maybe problem with my Leica Summicron 2/35 M39 Made in Germany in 1959: Leitz Leica Weitwinkel Summicron 1:2/35mm Leica-M M39 bei eBay.de: (endet 06.02.11 20:03:41 MEZ) The thread linking the lenses to the body shows exactly in the 12 position a symmetrical - in my opinion - machined - slot. It fits exactly to the attachment point of the rangefinder. Another Summicron being offered in Ebay US also shows this slot - but here the slot ground looks like broken, only the left and right side of the slot look like being machined. I´m offering my Summicron theses days and one Leica fan criticized this slot as a broken thread. Does someone have detailled knowledge concerning this slot? I would hate to sell a lens where there is a not descriped lack. Mounting of the lenses to 2 different Leica bodies worked perfectly. Looking forward to an answer! farnz Posted February 4, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 4, 2011 Hi, Juergen, welcome to the forum! I have the screw thread 50mm Summicron, I don't have the 35mm Summicron, but my screw thread is continuous all the way around the lens and it's the same with all ten L39 screw thread lenses that I have. juwobe Posted February 4, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted February 4, 2011 Hi, Juergen, welcome to the forum! I have the screw thread 50mm Summicron, I don't have the 35mm Summicron, but my screw thread is continuous all the way around the lens and it's the same with all ten L39 screw thread lenses that I have. Pete. Hi, Pete, thanks for the welcome! I am working on this. As I have learnt this morning Ebay USA offers some 35mm Summicrons being made in Canada. My Summicron was manufactured by Leitz Germany. The Canadian types have also the magic slot. I have the feeling that the travell of the 35 lenses moves farer into the lens-body than it is the case with the other lenses I own (Hektor, Elmar). So I am pretty sure now my Ebay offer will not lead to a problem. It is a shame to sell it but for years it has been stored only. I had no idea how special it is til I started the auction here in Germany - but now it is running... I ´m sure some Leica enthusiast will be happy! Thanks once more Juergen
luigi bertolotti Posted February 4, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 4, 2011 I'm not 100% sure, but one of my screw mount lenses has a similar slot... maybe a 50 or a Summaron 35... I must check at home. I have not idea of an explanation for the machining of the slot... It is well known that the first Summicron 35 in bayonet mount were screw mount lenses with an adapter permanently attached to the screw mount... I wonder if the slot maybe has something to do with this... Your offer on ebay surely will rise interest : a Summicron 35 in Screw Mount is indeed a rare item : all authors report 577 as the number of items. juwobe Posted February 4, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted February 4, 2011 Done , You confirm that the shortest focusing distance is 1 meter ? Thanks once more! Yes -the shortest distance printed on the distance ring is 1 m - but it is possible to turn a little bit farer than that. So maybe 0.95cm would be the shortest distance when taking pictures.
