Leica vs Voigtlander Viewfinder

It may be only my opinion, but I have shot thousands of photos on the X1 and never felt I needed a VF. Will make the camera less portable IMHO. I really feel the X1 was designed fro compactness and VF, grip, lens hood, etc,etc is really going against the fundamental design of it. I bought it for portability/size ratio.

A passive VF cannot be too useful with zero integration with the camera. No info on screen and no center markings either. How the heck to really aim accurately??!! Especially for spot focusing?

I do not need a VF on the X1 at all, really. It has to do more for me to even consider buying something so expensive. that goes for the CV one too. Ditto the handgrip. Hhaha...:D Leica has to do more than put their name for me to shell out the dole. The X1 is excellent value to me though.

Any loss of compactness will make me seriously start considering other camera options.

never judge about something you never tried:

vf+grip+thumbs-up makes the x1 so much better to handle these parts are worth one´s salt.

Lambda,

I have tried the VF first week I got the X1, didnt feel it added to anything. Even in bright sun the LCD is adequate altho washed out but ok for framing. So I judge based on my experience.:D Oh! BTW I am living smack on the equator so sunlight is bright bright!

Even the salesperson told me it is unnecessary in his opinion when I expressed mine.

Personally I use a handstrap that is the correct length and I dont know how to describe it but the strap is taut around my hands and even with one handed operation the X1 is very stable without the need for a handgrip. Since in this position the thumb is on the back the index finger on shutter and the rest of the fingers brace the front with the pinkie at the bottom. I took thousands of photos many one handed and absolutely no problems. I can understand how a heavier camera like the M9 will benefit from grip plus thumbs up due to weight but IMHO not for the X1.

Maybe its my hands or the configuration but the X1 in my hands just feel small and light and stable no need for extra contraptions that to me are absolute waste of money and worse still loss of portability.

At the end of the day do what feels right to you but I am certain the grip plus the VF will not help me take better photos with the X1. They do not look good either to add IMO. Furthermore like I said any bigger you have more cameras to consider besides the X1. Leica designed the X1 as a compact and to be used as such, so making it bigger with extra contraptions like lens hood, etc brings it into another genre. My two cents.

Gjames,

I do not extend my arm fully when I shoot, the LCD is inches from my face. Dont think I look silly (what do I know??!! haha) but whatever, dont give a hood how I look just want to take nice photos.

Since I started using the neckstrap to stabilize and shoot in zombie mode.. I look like a tourist.

Great at times.. bad at times.

I still cant get over the taut neckstrap posture, keeps me cracking up every time I read about it...:D

But...what ever works!

I feel the handgrip, Thumbs Up and viewfinder all add something to the camera. The handgrip made a huge difference to me in handling and security. Adding the Thumbs Up made the camera feel that much better in my hand. As for the viewfinder, I use it more often than not. Framing is a learning process; the more I use the VF, the more adept I become at achieving my desired compositions at varying distances.

Jz press info button few times then the LCD will turn off. Or if you already do Jz press shutter half way to confirm that u want to shot already and LCD will turn off.
