Hi,

in order to show current Twitter and Facebook messages in the forum I've built a new version of the forum start page.

Start Page New Design

The ads in the left column is gone, on the right column we now have two columns with search box, forum sponsors, classifieds and news.

What's your opinion? Better or worse than the current version? What needs improvement?

I'm looking forward to your feedback!

Andreas

PS.: If you want to go back to the old version, please use this link

I would like some grayspace between the forum index column and the two searchbox etc columns.

Good idea - I'll take a look.

Hi Andreas, I have clicked on the link and can see no difference; is it because I am a sponsoring member?

Did you click the link?

If yo - can you send me a screenshot via mail?

TIA

Andreas

Hi Andreas

It looks OK to me, but a couple of comments.

I can see the Red Dot Cameras ad on the beta page, which as a sponsoring member I do not get on the old site.

The vertical scroll bar for the "Buy & Sell" column is missing, so there is only half a picture at the bottom and no option to see all the items.

Regards

Mike

Other than a slight difference in column width they look the same here too.

They look the same to me, too. But this is because (I discovered) I'm using Firefox with Adblock. But I prefer the current version anyway. Less clutter.

Ahaaaa... Perhaps that's it.

I am using Firefox with Adblock too. I hate clutter.

You are not listed as a Sponsoring Member under your user name. You will need to check a box in your User CP area so that you show up as one.

I am a Sponsoring Member too, and I see the lower RedDot advert on the beta, but not the top of page banner adverts.

I have to say that I prefer my "content" to be centred on the screen, rather than all to one side.

Ditto. As also a Sponsoring Member I find the original is visually better balanced and without the flashing, distracting RedDot advert. Personally I see no need to have the Facebook & Twitter items in the separate column.

Sorry, Andreas, the forum is great and your hard work much appreciated but what's the phrase? "If it ain't broke..." ;)

Thanks for your advice. I only mentioned my status on the forum to assist Andreas in respect of the displaying of adverts. As I understand it from the e-mail I received, updating my details is optional.

Exactly my opinion.

The "old" design is much appreciated, and I might add: let those who can't live without Facebook & Twitter go there by all means, but please don't make looking at their twittering compulsory for everyone else. :)

Hi, Andreas

Thanks for the new design start page but I would like to have options to turn off the Quickfinder, Buy&Sell, Leica Blog & Leica Forum Twitter columns.

Thanks.

See my post above. This reduces clutter on all web-pages. And you can switch on or off as you wish.

Rather raises the question whether the modern trend for social media is relevant to the demographic that most Leica users represent.
