M8.2 with Aperture

I manage all my images in various Aperture libraries.

I have a minor issue with importing images from my recently acquired M8.2 - when I put the card in and import the images into Aperture, the preview screen of thumbnails (before clicking "Import") I don't see any thumbnail previews. All I get is a empty shadow box for the thumbnail(s) and the checkbox for selecting to import or not to import.

It's not a big deal as I rarely preview what I'm importing anyway (save those times I forget to format the card before a shoot - doh!) but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this.

I haven't seen this with my M8, but I usually am shooting RAW + JPEG Fine.

Are you doing RAW only, or...?

While getting used to the camera I've only been shooting jpeg. But now you mention it, one image that I did shoot RAW had an import preview.

Odd though, considering the preview used is a jpeg.

Thanks

I had that happen to me as well . Just make sure you have the latest aperture update and rebuild your library . That sorted it for me .

Thanks arminw. The databases and libraries are fine. There are no problems in the library. It's only the previews BEFORE import.... while they are on the card.

They import and display fine.

I had a similar issue with Aperture and the M8.2 and M9, when I shot in DNG and simultaneously JPG which I normally don't do. Do you shoot DNG or JPG?

The Aperture setting of how to treat the JPG (you can treat JPG to become the master. This is a terrible feature, in particular when set to JPG in BW mode ... it overwrites the DNG file and if you erase and unmount the DNG is lost for ever ...) was important

Cheers

Hi John - this is an unfortunate feature ever since Aperture 3.1. It's a glitch in the way Aperture uses the jpeg preview, preventing thumbnails from showing (regardless of how you shoot them and whether or not you shoot RAW alongside the jpeg files).

One workaround is to import the pictures to a hard drive, rather than read them straight from the card or camera, but if you shoot lots of jpegs and want to selectively import them, it is a royal pain in the iris, for sure.

This happens to me with my M8 (in Raw) but the explanation is quite silly. I have a beep or boop button on the shutter and I often put it back in my bag without switching it off. The pressure can easily cause the shutter to fire and I end up with a lot of black images.
