Question about Sponsoring Members

I've recently noticed that some members have "Sponsoring Member" below their user names.

I signed up and paid for an annual renewable Forum sponsorship some time ago. " Erfahrener Benutzer” appears below my user name. Not that it makes any difference to me, I am simply just curious as to the distinction between sponsoring members?

In any event I personally feel that everyone who is a regular visitor here should sign up as a sponsor to this Forum. It’s such a valuable and informative resource and very well worth our small contribution towards assisting Andreas in maintaining and running the Forum.

I am going to jump in here with my (ever so precious) opinion. Being a sponsoring member (or whatever) gets you gallery room for your photos, and I think this is a sadly overlooked space of this website. Having your own gallery is better than you think it is. It really is like a gallery, not like a forum . . . you post your stuff and people look and comment or they look and move on to the next image or gallery.

The photo forum is way too socio-political for my liking . . . your own gallery space is perfect and well worth the $$.

addendum: it probably works that way because it is your gallery whereas the photo forum is like an open bar room where the image poster is really an intruder.

Dave,

I have no way of knowing if the gallery space is overlooked or not. My personal experience is that I do look through the galleries, but I hardly ever comment as this gets into another time commitment thing, and I figure, since this is someone's gallery, they are not particularly interested in feedback (except for praise?). I maybe totally wrong, but this is how it is for me. Look through a few of the galleries (time is usually a big constraint), then move on to the forum (if there is time).

yeh, that's pretty much how I also view the galleries . . . it's a "quiet" place to wander around for a while and enjoy or move on . . . the forum is like a crowd of people often argung with the artist on how she / he should have created the artwork or this or that . . . the forum (for me) is for interaction and discussion, the galleries are "here is my work, enjoy or move along, please".
