oskarhhh Posted January 4, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I found a "new" M8.2 with 1000 pictures taken. Price is 2200 dollar. I will not be able to try it out before purchase. To me this sounds to good to be true. What do you think?

doubice Posted January 5, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 5, 2011 Curent selling price of used M8.2 bodies is between US$3000 and $3500. It does indeed sound 'too good to be true' but, more information is needed. Is this an eBay deal? Craigslist deal? Private sale? Pawnshop? Back alley? What you are asking cannot be answered without having more details..... I found a used M8.2 on Craigslist for $2300 about three months ago - when I contacted the seller, he claimed to be travelling in Italy. The camera was supposedly with an 'escrow warehouse' in Calgary and the IP address of his computer was in India. There is no such thing as 'an escrow warehouse' in Calgary or, anywhere else for that matter. Guess what - I passed....... Best, Jan
WestMichigan Posted January 5, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 5, 2011 To Second what Jan Said - I bumped into a Craigslist Ad for a fairly nice EOS outfit awhile back and exchanged emails with the lister -college professor- 'supposedly', but when came time to close sale he's all 'I'm traveling, wire the money, blah blah blah'. Turns out it was a highjacked email account of a 'Real' Prof at the University of Michigan. There are two adages that apply to your inquiry, original poster: a) Buyer Beware & The Price of Any Item in a transaction is utterly dependent upon the value agreed upon by the buyer and the seller. Maybe the seller you've encountered is a thief, maybe they're the widow of the original owner and just don't know how to research price histories on ebay or they do know how, but don't know the difference between M8/M8u/M8.2 cameras. earleygallery Posted January 5, 2011 Share #6 Posted January 5, 2011 It's either a bargain or a scam. You need to satisfy yourself which you think is most likely and - assuming you're sending money off somewhere unknown in the hope of receiving a camera - be prepared for the worst! Olsen Posted January 6, 2011 Share #7 Posted January 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Although it sounds all good to be true - it could well be... I have just bought a 2.hand M9 - allegedly 3 months old, that turns out to have just as many exposures (about 4000) under it's belt as my, soon, four years old M8. My type of amateur photography with two digital cameras, a Canon 1Ds III and a M8, it turns out that 'about' 1000 exposures per year has been typical with my M8. My rough guess is that this is about 1/3 of my total number of exposures, with the rest, some 3000 exposures performed with the 1Ds III per year. What is typical, though, is that my total number of exposures exceeds by far the total number of exposures I did back in the film days. Two to three times as much. Alpa sent out a message to all it's customers last year making it clear to their customers that; 'no', the Compur shutters have not become worse the last five years, but better! Still, since their customers perform many times more exposures than during the film days, shutters wear out far more rapidly. For anyone buying a 2. hand digital camera today should reckon with a shutter replacement. Sooner or later.
