Jobin Posted January 20, 2012 Share #83 Posted January 20, 2012 More shots that don't make me happy. HP5 in ilfolsol. Stealth3kpl your shots processed with ilfolsol look nice. Mine look way too contrasty and large grain for my taste. (I believe the last photo is FP4.) Welcome, dear visitor! pico Posted January 20, 2012 Share #84 Posted January 20, 2012 Im scanning them with a Plustek 7200 with silverfast. I dont hear many others using ilfolsol, it's just what I had in the darkroom at the moment. I suspect something is not right in the scanning. Grain is not sharp and not even the dust is as sharp as it should be.
pico Posted January 20, 2012 Share #85 Posted January 20, 2012 Tri-X at 250 ASA, HC-110 Dil.H, 9 minutes. No focus, poor edge contrast. Something went wrong.
Jobin Posted January 20, 2012 Share #86 Posted January 20, 2012 Yeah, on another forum that seems to be the consensus. I will have to play with some presets and get to the bottom of it. I suspect something is not right in the scanning. Grain is not sharp and not even the dust is as sharp as it should be.

Pico, please have a look at the original file: http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/7721/53615626.jpg Yes, there´s grain, but I can still find the detail there? Rolo Posted January 20, 2012 Share #88 Posted January 20, 2012 Kodak Portra 400, although I prefer the 160 version and like Reala a lot as well. This is nice film. Welcome, dear visitor! pico Posted January 20, 2012 Share #89 Posted January 20, 2012 Pico, please have a look at the original file: http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/7721/53615626.jpg Yes, there´s grain, but I can still find the detail there? It is generous of you to share the original. I can see the grain is there, and detail probably limited only by the grain which is not a crisp as I would prefer, but rarely achieve myself unless I scan from a print. I wonder if it could have been down-sampling which could have been destructive to the grain's sharpness. Or the developer. By the way, one reason I'm drawn to your photo is my own interest in overhead power infrastructures which, should our world economy permit, will eventually be underground and such pictures might become of historical importance. Good picture! Thank you for your response.
alw Posted January 20, 2012 Share #90 Posted January 20, 2012 Thanks Pico! I blame it on the Plustek 7600i and my pp skills and the downsampling - if it was HC-110 I´d be surprised...then again my HC-110 is way past it´s "best before" date...but then again kept in air-tight containers in total darkness. sketchyhead Posted January 20, 2012 Share #91 Posted January 20, 2012 That is such a lovely picture. The movement, the light and the composition are to my eye very successfully combined. For some reason the mono treatment accentuates those attributes. PH

Stealth3kpl Posted January 25, 2012 Author Share #96 Posted January 25, 2012 Having bought a load of Portra to see me through a few months whilst things at Kodak settle down, I thought I'd try a roll of Agfa Vista Plus 200 iso. Its actually very nice. These are pro scans of a test film (testing the film, the lens, whether I'd put the new light seals in properly, and whether I could trust myself to automatic exposure - I can't ). I haven't tried scanning it at home yet. It looks as though there's something to fall back on should Kodak cease production and not sell on their technology. Pete Welcome, dear visitor!
