Mauribix Posted January 5, 2011 Share #43 Posted January 5, 2011 I was about to sell my 35mm Pre Summilux but after looking at shots recently taken from other users such as Ben, I decided it would be a great loss letting this little gem go. Hank I'm quite sure that Ben would have change the mind of almost everyone on every lens. He's such a great photographer with every lens he uses. I had Luigi make me a special case for this combination--M9, lens and hood--that I wear on my belt. After a while, you even forget you're carrying it. I meant to say, I also use a very small belt Tamrac case (#3365) that just fits the combo I mentioned, but with a little padding. Luigi's case is very nice leather, but of course there is no padding--which is fine most of the time. But when I know I'm going to be in situations where I would prefer the padding, I go with the Tamrac case. No much bigger, but sometimes safer. Please note that the form has limits on the number of pixels on each photo's longest size (960 pixels I think) and the data size of each photo (292 kB for non-sponsoring members and 505 kB for Sponsoring Members I think). For my purposes I suspect the Perar max aperture will be an annoying restriction. But I will wait and see what you report once you have it in hand. If I am too late to buy one I will just have to take that risk. Today I have been browsing through Voigtlander choices: 35/2.5, 35/1.4 and 40/1.4 all look very tasty: compact, light, fast, and some good reports in general, especially the first one. I have not been able to find a lot of reviews or user experiences yet, even on this forum where I thought there would be more, but will keep looking. And since i mostly hear that it is much more tolerant to lens flare than the different Leica lenses i suppose i might work using it without the lens hood. I want enough speed to shoot anywhere, and it is small enough to fit in an old leather ever-ready case when mounted. It's the same size as most 50/2s, but it's a stop faster. rob_w Posted January 17, 2011 Author Share #58 Posted January 17, 2011 Well I tried two Voigtlanders -- the 35/2.5 Color Skopar and the 35/1.4 Nokton. Both are delightful lenses -- very light and compact. On close assessment of the test results however I feel they are not close enough to the Leica images I am familiar with (ducks for cover here ). They are close, very close, and maybe I could be very happy with them. But I would always be nagged by the thought that I should have taken one of my Leica lenses along. And that is what I am trying to avoid, otherwise I could just take a pocket camera like my Ricoh as I have done in the past. So next step is to check out some of the small Leica lenses recommended here: 35 cron, 28 elmarit, 35 summarit, and/or the pre-asph models. Not easy to do since there seems to be a world-wide shortage of Leica stock. When the M9 was really hard to get my Leica dealer lamented he was "running the pub with no beer" as in the old song.
