Flash with X1

Has anybody tried to use Metz 54 MZ-3 flash unit with X1? If yes, what kind of shoe is required?

Many Thanks, regards,

I think your MZ3 is a bit to retro for compatibility. Attached is the Metz guide for their latest models. Not much matches up to the X1.

Funny you should ask that. Yesterday, I ordered a Metz SCA adaptor, SCA 3502, so that I could use my X1 with a new Metz 45CL Digital that is due to show up any day. It is the expensive way to go for flashes, but it is unlikely that Sunpak will provide a module for the 622, which was my other choice.

BTW, the previous models of 45 are not, apparently, up to the capability of the X1 and, for that matter, any SCA compatible flash with sufficient function could be used with the SCA 3502.

Maybe that helps.

Well, both the flash (Metz 45CL-Digital) and adaptor (SCA3502) are now here. I put them together and tried some pics and all seems to be well, but a few pics in the livingroom do not constitute a very rigorous test.

I'll keep taking pics and let you know. Right now, it seems that exposure is very specifically keyed to the square area in the viewfinder. Maybe I should change the metering mode? Well, we'll see.
