earleygallery Posted February 12, 2007 Share #21 Posted February 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm happy to play by Leica's rules on this site, and on balance I'm also happy to keep the site free of For Sale ads. As Luigi has said, it would soon become a portal for all sorts of gear. OK, if the rule is 'Leica only' but then people would complain that they should be able to sell their VC lens or Canon body. Then there would be the dealers, e bay sellers and even scammers who would soon follow - I can only imagine what would happen if someone was scammed from an ad on the forum..... But IF a FS forum were to be added I would prefer it to be a simple listing format, i.e. members ID, for sale or wanted, item/condition and price. All Q&A's, item photo's etc to happen off forum, and I'd be happy for there to be a listing fee which could further support the forum. I have bought a couple of items from other members here through general exchages of messages, and I understand the arguments about dealing with people you 'know'. However, there are numerous resources already out there not to mention Leica dealers who will sell on a commission basis for you, and I think Leica are trying to support their dealers more than anything here. Advertisement Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Hi earleygallery, Take a look here To moderator - How about a FS for sale forum. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
brunom Posted February 12, 2007 Share #22 Posted February 12, 2007 Luigi - Agreed James - I've tried commission sales before, and have found the whole experience a pain in the backside, you loose control of your gear whilst it's with the dealer, and the equipment always comes back in not the same condition as it was left - not enough to really complain about but different, say exc+ instead of exc++. I would rather deal with people who I know or who, as part of a community, I can have more trust in. I also would not like to see a whole trading section set up - just the ability to post a very brief 'for sale' notice, with details exchanged privately, and with of course the acceptance of Leica to allow such a thing. bill Posted February 12, 2007 Share #23 Posted February 12, 2007 I'm still agin it. At the moment this Forum is like a pub without a big screen tv, or a high street without chainstores, or a town without a McDonalds, or... It's a civilised place to be, without commerce. PLEASE let's keep it that way. Regards, Bill

brunom Posted February 12, 2007 Share #25 Posted February 12, 2007 Bill Whilst I do agree with your sentiments I think your analogies are not a true reflection of what has been suggested, but seemingly an expression of an all or nothing scenario. I don't feel that having say a sub-forum of Barnack's Bar where notices can be made, would turn it into a Big McBarnack ? What would be so bad, about you for instance, having a scanner that you wanted to sell as you were going all digital, and wanted to help fund the purchase of a new M8 , and posting a note to that effect in a sub-forum - that those that didn't want to see or partake in needn't enter ? wattsy Posted February 14, 2007 Share #26 Posted February 14, 2007 FS posts were allowed in the previous incarnation of the site and I don't think they were a problem at all. I think the site now has a lot more members so the reintroduction of FS posts would have to be handled carefully. A separate 'trading post' section is unlikely to intrude upon the general discussion forums and would, I suspect, prove to be very popular. Those not interested can just ignore that section. This is how the Rob Galbraith forums used to be (before that site went belly-up) and it worked very well. In my opinion, the 'no FS posts' rule hasn't kept this forum especially free of intrusive commercialism. It's not so bad now but, for much of last year, there were an awful lot of not very subtle self-promoting postings taking place.
