Advertisement Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Hi Guest, Take a look here Anyone else tempted to trade X1 for an X100?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
johM8 Posted December 9, 2010 Share #22 Â Posted December 9, 2010 I am not tempted. for me the Fujiy is too big to replace the x1. Â =
phancj Posted December 9, 2010 Share #23 Â Posted December 9, 2010 Yup, I bought the X1 for its size/IQ ratio. I'd sooner buy the GXR instead of the X100.
phancj Posted December 9, 2010 Share #24 Â Posted December 9, 2010 After FW upgrades, Oly mfts AF speed is quite a bit faster than the X1 and Panasonics mft beat it by quite a margin. The Sony NEX and Ricoh's GXR with 50 and 28mm module respectively have same size sensors as the X1 and have considerably faster AF. There is no excuse for Leica not to deliver. After Sigma's DP, it is clearly the slowest of the group. Â YEs, but it also takes the best photos, so there are trade-offs in everything. It is plenty useable to me and I have taken some of my best shots (for what they are worth) with the X1, slow AF or not.

h00ligan Posted December 9, 2010 Share #27 Â Posted December 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) It can be pocketable. Adding an adaptor for me is a knee in a while tng when taking shots in less than ideal light..like visiting a park and such. It's not adding much weight and can be carried separately. grober Posted December 9, 2010 Author Share #28 Â Posted December 9, 2010 Aside from the looks and the viewfinder design, why is the X100 any different? Â For starters, the X100 has an internal optical viewfinder unlike my X1. Â THEN . . . nothing could possibly be slower than the X1 -- err, maybe Mathew Brady juggling his wet plates on the battlefields of 1863. Â If rumored X1 FW release 2.0 doesn't fly, I will . . . to the nearest Fuji source for the X100. Â (Ricoh GXR an option? No, I never buy a camera from a copier company.) phancj Posted December 10, 2010 Share #31  Posted December 10, 2010 Why?  Coz I buy this class of cameras for their absolute portability, for the size of the fuji I will like to use an M instead. Or a small DSLR for that matter. I accept the fixed lens on the X1 for its ize, but will not take a bigger fixed lens camera than the X1 for sure.  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-x1-forum/152533-x-1-lens-hood-sk-grimes.html Not such a compact camera if you add a filter/hood, a grip, a viewfinder..........  Anyway, comparison is meaningless until the X100 is on the market.  Yes, but I for one do not have the grip/VF, etc. If I want all that I bring a DSLR or buy an M.  End of the day priorities are different. I think when launched finally the X100 will have plenty deficiencies for people to complain about, nothing is perfect. I also think that the IQ of the X100 will be at best the same as the X1, given the same sensor size. Leica has done a nice job matching the lens/sensor/image processing engine in the X1.  So the X100 for its size will absolutely turn me off buying it. phancj Posted December 10, 2010 Share #38 Â Posted December 10, 2010 JS, Â the X100 compared to the X1 is a lot taller, a bit thicker and wider, and much heavier. That 20% or so is a dealbreaker for me. I want the absolute smallest. Altho thanks for the GXR size comparison, that thing is larger than I thought. Looks like the X1 has no competitor to me in terms of IQ/size equation. Â I can comfortably fit the X1 in a coat pocket or my baggy jeans pocket, no way the X100 will fit nicely. prk60091 Posted December 10, 2010 Share #39 Â Posted December 10, 2010 I'm sorry, but the overall slowness of my X1 continues to severely disappoint. Â Haven't handled the Fuji X100 yet but if Leica firmware 2.0 doesn't speed up this lil' puppy, I'll be sorely tempted by the Fuji X100 when it finally arrives in the States next Spring. Â Anyone else having the same thought? Â -g I was at Dale photo this week and was informed a: firmware update should be available this month and b: will 'speed up" focus and "on off"
robertc Posted December 10, 2010 Share #40 Â Posted December 10, 2010 Here is latest Fuji info with an updated website today. It looks to be a very serious and compelling camera, but on extreme borderline of pocketable. X1 already weighs enough for my comfort. Until the Fuji is out I will continue to sit on the fence re X1 purchase.
