enboe Posted December 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted December 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Many, many memories captured, memories that will literally last for a lifetime and more. My last 2 rolls were shot today, capturing a Christmas parade. Off to Dwayne's tomorrow - one last wait for the excitement of those little boxes of slides to come in the mail, and the reward of peering through the slide viewer. Ran into a gentleman who was shooting his last rolls of K40 movie film, same idea I had. Thanks. (P.S. Dwayne's has a December 30th cutoff for receiving Kodachrome for processing.) Advertisement Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Hi enboe, Take a look here A farewell to Kodachrome. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JBA Posted December 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 6, 2010 Sent away 34 rolls last week and am now working my way through my last 18 rolls. Should be done by the end of next weekend.
StS Posted December 7, 2010 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2010 Just out of curiosity - what would be your replacement material? Stefan
JBA Posted December 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2010 For me, the sadly inadequate substitutes of Velvia 50 and Ektachrome VS with the occasional roll of Ektar.
jamhowa Posted December 8, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2010 There is no substitute for Kodachrome. It was bad enough when they stopped making Kodachrome 25 and 200, but losing 64 form me is the end of shooting slide film. I never liked Velvia or Echtachrome. With the death of the R system and the films I love, it will probably be digital alone now.
garyp Posted December 10, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 10, 2010 Agree with jamhowa; I'll shoot an occasional roll of print film, but it looks like my DMR is my Kodachrome ''replacement''.
kdemas Posted December 11, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll be shooting my last 10 or so rolls this next week and sending them off. In the last few months I've shot about 40 rolls, such a wonderful film. I will certainly miss Kodachrome, such a unique film. Kent
enboe Posted December 11, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted December 11, 2010 Alas, I cannot recommend an equivalent substitute either. It's very much like having a favorite restaurant close. One finds something to take it's place, but there is no direct replacement. As for me, I will spend some time with the M9, X1, and DP1S. I also have some Kodacolor and Ilford XP2 Super that need to be fogged (my term for taking pictures). Enjoy!
Xmas Posted December 11, 2010 Share #9 Posted December 11, 2010 Waaaaaaaaaah. Ilford HP5 and Delta 400 on Silver bromide prints... Noel
leicamann Posted December 11, 2010 Share #10 Posted December 11, 2010 I have 25 rolls left which will be used for my last Kodachrome assignment, Vancouver at Night during the Christmas season, will probably come up with some pretty interesting stuff. I have until the 15th and its off to Dwaynes Express.... I will post the results on the Forum after Christmas.and yes my DMR is now my Kodachrome replacement. KM-25 Posted December 12, 2010 Share #11 Posted December 12, 2010 Like a storm brewing off the coast, I shoot more and more... Jeff Jacobson and I are shooting in New Orleans at the moment. Me, Leica M6ttl w/ 35 1.4 asph and Nikon F100 w/ 50 1.4 G on a flash bracket, warm, red and deep blue gels....Kodachrome 25, 64 and 200 flying through the cameras. People are excited, they know they are part of something real, deep & lasting. With 230 rolls left, I have another bag of 100 rolls that ready to go to Dwayne's on Monday. After 5 days in New Orleans, I will go to the areas hit by the oil spill.....I have people that want to tell it like it is, I will fly above it all, show the etchings of time and water in one scene, then on to Dallas, small towns, superfund sites of Treece Kansas and Picher,OK. Then to the lab, where I will paint a keg in Kodak gold and red and roll it into the lab, the "Fat Lady" is clearing her voice... I shoot 6-15 rolls per day, what a blessing to be able to shoot precious Kodachrome film like digital. When interviewed by Newsweek this week, I was asked how I will feel when Kodachrome is done? I said proud that I did the best I could, shot over 1,000 rolls of it in recent years and will put out a book, When I conceived this idea, the Kodachrome Project, I wanted to not regret actually doing it. I have no regrets......
KM-25 Posted December 12, 2010 Share #12 Posted December 12, 2010 When I conceived this idea, the Kodachrome Project, I wanted to not regret actually doing it. I have no regrets... Ahh, nothing like a combo of beers, typing on an iPhone and not being to go back and edit, LOL! "I did not want to regret not doing it." 18 days is all you have folks, shoot it like the world ends then, because in terms of ever recording it on Kodachrome again.....it actually does. leicamann Posted December 17, 2010 Share #13 Posted December 17, 2010 Dwayne's just received my 25 rolls, while searching I found another 5 , including another K25..so that's going off on Monday. So far, over 900 frames..some I hope to be over the top and extreme in colour. Will post here and on my Website when I get them back. Have fun, remember.. you essentially need to get your last rolls at Dwayne's on the 24th..if not it will be too late. Cheers, JRM
SteveYork Posted December 18, 2010 Share #14 Posted December 18, 2010 I sent my last batch to Dwaynes yesterday.

JBA Posted December 20, 2010 Share #17 Posted December 20, 2010 Down to the last three rolls of Kodachrome, all in-camera and each nearly 30 exposures in. Leica R8 and Nikon F w/Zeiss 85 f1.4 Planar loaded with PKM-25 and Leica MP loaded with the last roll of KR-64. Shooting my last 40 or so rolls has been a true labor of love. KM-25 Posted December 21, 2010 Share #18 Posted December 21, 2010 Doing well shooting my last rolls, will do one final shipment tomorrow then the next set will be hand delivered. Now for the bad news, I am going to have to sell all my Leica gear including my black paint MP-3 kit when I am done with the project. I am pretty much broke... Now for the bad news, I am going to have to sell all my Leica gear including my black paint MP-3 kit when I am done with the project. I am pretty much broke... How heartbreaking to have to sell all your Leica gear! I think I'd sooner sell a kidney. Just sent my last 18 rolls off to Dwayne's. Wanted to get that done yesterday but still had the last 10-12 frames left in three different cameras and had to shoot them off. First film to be loaded now that my Kodachrome is finished is a roll of Tri-X in my chrome MP.
