gjames9142 Posted December 9, 2010 Author Share #21 Â Posted December 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can only assume that if it was ready, Firmware 2.0 would be available for download. Am going to ask my dealer today if there is any news on the black version before Xmas.
Advertisement Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Hi gjames9142, Take a look here BLACK availability. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gjames9142 Posted December 9, 2010 Author Share #22 Â Posted December 9, 2010 The word from my excellent dealer is that the black X1 will not be available in Canada, and presumably North America, until the New Year. I am getting a loaner for my downed M9 and will wait. For me black is beautiful. Maybe they will even have the new firmware then, too.
Sparth Posted December 9, 2010 Share #23 Â Posted December 9, 2010 i couldn't wait any longer for the black version and ordered the grey several weeks ago. no regrets though, as they both have their advantages and both look great too.
jsrockit Posted December 9, 2010 Share #24 Â Posted December 9, 2010 To me, the black is clearly the more beautiful camera... perhaps one of the most beautiful digitals ever.

jsrockit Posted December 10, 2010 Share #26  Posted December 10, 2010 Trade over! Then someone gets a good deal on the actual prettier camera  I may eventually. I'd have to send mine to Leica for a new covering before I could sell it... and firmware 2.0 has to really make it faster before I'd waste my cash on an aesthetic upgrade. gjames9142 Posted December 10, 2010 Author Share #27 Â Posted December 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks to this wonderful international forum I ordered the last black from Robert White, and even with the shipping, it is a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than anything in North America. I should have it next week. It will be interesting to see how it measures up to the M9 -- some pictures posted here. Daniel Novello Posted December 10, 2010 Share #28  Posted December 10, 2010 @FelixK - I`m sorry. I must have been the one on the phone half an hour before you arrived. According to Meister Camera I got the last one of their first shipment:)  Anyway, it just arrived at the doorstep and the very first impressions are: (This is my second X1 - passed the first one on some time ago)  1. Black vulcanite is fantastic, great grip and is very similar to my M6. 2. Setting wheel for manual focus is much tighter. Very much tighter. 3. Setting weel for EV etc is tighter, but not so much as the MF wheel. 4. Aperture dial is much tighter. 5. Shutter speed dial is somewhat tighter. 6. Battery is charging, but I doubt I`ll seeing something else than firmware 1.0 when I switch the camera on.  Will report more later:) Welcome, dear visitor! gar1013 Posted December 10, 2010 Share #30 Â Posted December 10, 2010 I'm still prefering the grey X1, even though it is still a nice looking camera in Black. I do like the M series better in black though.
avsearle Posted December 11, 2010 Share #31 Â Posted December 11, 2010 Hi Bought one in London yesterday, 10th December, complete with the extras. Beautiful.
pvak Posted December 11, 2010 Share #32 Â Posted December 11, 2010 I wonder if it will be possible to get the Vulcanite on the Grey X1 replaced with the new covering found on the Black X1 which certainly looks richer and has a better tactile grip. Particularly for those that had the peeling Vulcanite on the original X1s, it would be an interesting option to have it replaced with the new skin. They just didn't have it available. I even said I'd pay for it.

That is probably true given that the Black X1 hasn't started to ship in the States yet. So It's not surprising that they don't have the "black" replacement skins just yet. But it's probably only a matter of time before the Black X1 skins start to peel and replacements will be needed. :-) That will be the time to ask if we can change the skins on our original X1s! :-)
pharyngula Posted December 14, 2010 Share #35 Â Posted December 14, 2010 The X1 steel grey skin looks a lot like the MP skin - does anyone know if it is the same? I quite like the skin on the MP, the grip feels great and a lot of others have praised it as well.
DwF Posted December 14, 2010 Share #36 Â Posted December 14, 2010 To the extent that the X1 pays homage to the old III series Leicas, the war-time IIIc camera came with a "shark skin" covering. Although the texture on the X1 is different, I immediately was reminded of that "gray" covering the first time I laid eyes on this newer camera. Â Okay that was my two cents for this thread but I do have a question and was unable to find in answer in earlier posts: Â Has anyone here found a good adhesive solution for this skin peeling problem? I used some 3m photo mounting adhesive (very lightly applied) a couple of weeks back and the problem is back. I can press the skin down and it stays for a couple of days and barely comes up but I would like to cure this ill once and for all while waiting for the newer vulcanite to become available. Â I used LePage Contact cement when my X1 started to peel within a couple of weeks of purchase last March. It has held perfectly ever since.
FelixK Posted December 14, 2010 Share #38 Â Posted December 14, 2010 Did you try it also in KaDeWe? The called me up on tuesday telling me that "Blackie" is in stock now... Â nope I haven't. i am not located in Berlin so I didn't even know they stock Leica. Thx for the heads up tho! Â @FelixK - I`m sorry.
