50mm V2 1961 Summilux or Nokton ASPH 1.5 LTM for m9?

I have the opportunity to pick up a Summilux for what seems a very fair price. The glass looks good. The lens serial number is 18443** and from what I have read lenses after 1844000 are superior to the earlier 1959-1961 versions. I hope this number is quite exact as the lens I am looking at is very close. It should be one of the first few hundred v2 lux's...

However I already have a Nokton 1.5 ASPH lens and have really enjoyed it. It focuses very well- is sharp, etc.

If I buy the lux the nokton must go... so:

Has any one here compared these two lenses? It is pretty subjective- but what would your preferance be?

Basically if you could have one or the other for an M9- which would it be- and why?

The Nokton 1.5 seems to be one of the best rated VC lenses- and certainly it is the best I have used. with it's modern coatings, design, ASPH etc, will it beat a 1961 Summilux? Are there any reasons why one is better for digital than the other?

Hi,

I have had samples of each. The Nokton is perhaps a touch sharper over the outer parts of the frame but the Summilux is sharper in the centre.

The Nokton bokeh is harsh and quite ugly, and I and some other photographers I know sold it for this reason. If you wish to shoot wide open often this would be a good reason to choose the Leica lens IME.

I still have my old Summilux wide open shots are creamy but obviously not as sharp as the new Asph.

the nokton one the best purchases I ever made. has performed perfectly on my M9 and 8.2 without a problem whereas my 50 lux asph has had to go back for defects 4 times since new!!

below is an example on the 8.2
