Hello,

I'll copy my question from the german forum to the english one, it seems that my question is maybe somehow odd.

I look for my Leica X1 for a small external flask who should best support the TTL logic.

I know from the original Leica SF 24D, but he is really expensive (about 300 Euro)

Meanwhile I found in the Internet an alternative:

Metz mecablitz 24 AF-1

This flask maybe support the Leica X1 TTL logic, but here I'm unsure. Other alternatives I don't know.

I will be very happy if someone has experience or knowledge of the Metz or other for me unknown alternatives.

regards

Thomas

I recommend you try the Leica SF-20 which is not so expensive on the used market. No need to TTL.

The SF 20 works really well in M mode where you determine exposure or ambient light light and dial down the power on the flash. It works particularly well with SC 17 flash cable so that you can get your flash off of the camera.

Yes but my question/thread involved using the SF-20 in TTL mode on the X1. I was curious about that but I am perfectly happy to continue to use it in M mode.

Good luck picking a flash :)

I use my canon 580 in manual mode and its very easy, no need for ttl. It dont take long to learn what values you put in to the flash to get right exp. What for me is important, I have always 3200 k gel with tape attached to flash. I mostly use flash indoors and just for fill.

Hello,

the Canon 580 EX I didn't try (I have this flash), but this flash seems to be a little big compared to my X1.

The original mentioned Metz 24 AF-1 is not working with the X1 even in the manual mode. The reason is that the mid contact can not be single controlled there (I was told this by Metz)

Now I ordered an already used Leica SF 24D which is only a little more expensive.

Well, while it seems a little large at first, my Metz 45CL-4Digital works just fine with the SCA adaptor suggested on the Metz website. Even the SCA adaptor looks a little overbearing, but the setup functions just fine. In full-auto TTL mode, there is considerable delay for preflashes, etc. However, if one sets the shutter speed at, say, 1/125 and then uses a determined f-stop, setting the thing that way, then it is a little speedier.
